How Employer Recommendation Letters Can Help In Your Singapore PR Application

Are you an expatriate living and working in Singapore, contemplating the possibility of applying for Singapore Permanent Residency (PR)?

You have been here long enough to know the culture.

You might be in love with the food and how safe and convenient it is to get from point A to point B in this tiny (but vibrant) red dot.

And you might be thinking it's getting too expensive to remain an expatriate in Singapore - especially with the 60% Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty (ABSD) rate imposed on foreigners buying any residential property in Singapore.

Having a PR status would mean being entitled to substantial housing and healthcare subsidies, access to better job opportunities and more.

But with so many highly capable individuals applying for a prize with a limited quota, what makes your profile the winning ticket?

One of the documents that can enhance your PR approval chances is the Employer Recommendation Letter.

In today's edition, we'll share why including an employer recommendation letter in your Singapore PR application is a key advantage.

A Strong Testimony of Support From Locals

Firstly, an employer recommendation letter is NOT a mandatory document for a Singapore PR application.

It is a supporting document that is only optional.

However, an employer recommendation letter is a testament to your local employer's personal support of your application and can highlight your positive qualities, work ethic, credibility, and social integration efforts.

It's crucial to remember that the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers processing your application are not personally acquainted with you. They don't know you at all, except for the documents you submit online.

Thus, receiving a recommendation from your Singaporean employer can demonstrate your worth and establish that you have formed positive relationships within your workplace.

How Should An Employer Recommendation Letter for Singapore PR Application Be Written?

When seeking a recommendation, it's best to ask someone who knows you well, such as a current or past employer with whom you have a good relationship.

We advise you to avoid using a template and opt for originality instead!

You can expect ICA to possibly look for the following things inside an employer recommendation letter for a Singapore PR application:

  • Their relationship (your boss) with you.
  • Example of an exceptional achievement that contributed to the growth of your company.
  • Your valuable attributes and how well you get along with your co-workers and superiors.
  • And if you are close to your employer, he (or she) can share some examples of how you have localised yourself in Singaporean society.

What if you're actually a business owner? Then you can ask your business partners or clients instead.

Example of how the recommendation letter can look like:

.. his quick analysis of the issues we're facing, with his vast knowledge… he developed practical solutions to our problem without costing us more than is required…. his honesty in business dealing and professionalism have left us with a deeply positive impression of his character and integrity…”

Who Else Can Write A Recommendation Letter For Your Singapore PR Application

Your workplace is not to only place where you interact with local Singaporeans (we hope). It's important to prioritize both your personal life and career.?So, there are others who you can reach out to as well.

Hanging out in Singapore

Recommendations from local colleagues, friends, and relatives have a more casual tone than those from your employers.

They also have a higher chance to witness your efforts to adopt Singaporean culture and become a part of the community should be the ones to write recommendation letters for you.?

Their letter should contain the following:

  • The relationship between the two of you.
  • Specific examples of your efforts to integrate into Singaporean society.
  • A testimony of your good character.
  • Your suitability to be a part of Singapore.

Do NOT Spam Recommendation Letters

If you have started preparing a long list of people in your mind, start striking off names. Reach out to those you are much closer to and, most importantly, have seen your efforts to assimilate into Singapore culture.

Simply presenting 3 to 4 recommendation letters for your Singapore PR application is recommended.

It is even more beneficial to obtain recommendation letters from individuals of diverse races and religions who are locals!

How Eager Are you?

Obtaining a Singapore PR status may be more challenging in recent years, so if you can do more to prove your eagerness to be a permanent resident in Singapore, why not?

Although an employer's recommendation letter can enhance your profile's authenticity, it is merely one of the supporting documents that can be submitted. A cover letter and certificates are some other supporting documents that you can consider preparing too.

Please note that providing an employer recommendation letter is NOT mandatory when applying for Singapore PR.

Moreover, having such a letter does not ensure the approval of your PR application.

Final Words...
