How employees perceive succession planning

The infographics below present a direct interpretation of the feedback from respondents who participated in the succession planning survey. This one-page report is intended to prompt critical, probing questions that will help derive meaningful conclusions. Additionally, it encourages us to re-evaluate and challenge any assumptions we may have unconsciously held without thorough examination.

Additionally, one respondent shared the following statement, which encapsulates the essence of succession planning:

succession planning is not just about filling vacancies but about strategically developing talent to ensure long-term organizational success. It requires foresight, careful planning, and commitment from leadership to invest in the growth and development of their workforce. Effective succession planning is a proactive strategy that not only addresses current leadership needs but also anticipates future requirements. By investing in talent development, fostering a culture of inclusivity and transparency, and aligning succession efforts with strategic goals, organizations can position themselves for sustainable growth and success over the long term.

Some of my own questions will be:

  • How do you know that your organization is matured enough for the dissemination of succession plans?
  • With whom should you be having conversations on the subject of succession pool?
  • What could go wrong where there is easy access to the succession pool?
  • Which of these offer greater benefits: making succession pool a common place information or controlled access to such information?
  • Why would people show interest in wanting to know the potential candidate to be placed under readiness plan for easy transition into their role while majority of such people feel there are no competent individuals to replace them within their organization?
  • Is the interest in the succession process driven by a genuine desire to support it, or by an intent to hinder its progress?
