HOW EMPLOYABLE IS THE AVERAGE NIGERIAN GRADUATE
I somehow found myself doing some shortlisting of candidates for a role in the not so far past and I spent an entire week reviewing hundreds of CVs received for the position. I observed two things:
- The average Job seeker has things on his CV that may "qualify" him/her for the role but more often than not, they are unable to prove their worth at the interview.
- The average job seeker fails to realize that your CV is an attraction but you need to "SELL" yourself (your person, skills, abilities and all you have to offer) to your prospective employer. Ask yourself just before walking into the interview, "What am I selling?"
In today's Nigeria, your academic qualification is not sufficient to get you a job, the jobs are getting fewer and better graduates are coming up. one thing i have noticed about people who get jobs and switch jobs easily is their "passion for development".
You must be able to Learn, UnLearn and ReLearn. Self development is Key to a successful job hunt.
These are just random thoughts I thought to share tonight.
Before your next job application/interview, ask these questions. Can I defend the contents of my CV without a copy of it in my hands? What am i selling to this prospective employer?
Is it what they're looking to buy?
Have a blessed week.

7 年We all have valid points, which, in the actual fact, cannot be brushed aside. But more expected of the job seeker as it were. I ask myself sometimes, "if I was the owner of my company, what would be my goals?; who would i employ?; etc". This in no actual sense justifies the kind of treatment employees (cashiers) are let alone to experience. This issues raised are very contending but i still believe that while much is expected of the government and organisation, a lot more can be done with oneself - SELF DEVELOPMENT. Keep learning, unlearning, and re-learning...and the opportunities are almost free nowadays (online) - Udemy, Lynda, etc. One's passion should lead him/her to self-development which will create the confidence for 'killing' the interview. My one cent. (smiles)

7 年Your absolutely right. Self development is the key. The ability to improve on one’s knowledge through conscientious efforts. It worked for me and i will really like to continue to expand my horizon
