How to Embrace the Unpredictable Brilliance of AI Tools

Multiply the power of your human insight?

AI tools change the game for many professions, including marketing. ChatGPT, Bard, Bing Chat, and Claude 2 are just a few examples of tools that serve as force multipliers, amplifying the creative potential of marketing teams.?

At The Fusion Syndicate, we embarked on a journey of exploration, discovering the dynamic interplay between human and artificial intelligence. In this article, we share our experience with prompt engineering and how embracing the unpredictable brilliance of AI has empowered us to shape and execute marketing strategies with greater efficiency, effectiveness, and quality.

The Five Stages of Our Journey

  1. Denial: At the onset of our AI-assisted marketing venture, we initially underestimated the need for human contribution during an AI session. We eagerly dove into prompt engineering with ChatGPT, crafting intricate Writing Assistant and Proofreader prompts. We were confident in AI's ability to generate and revise progressively improving drafts while adhering to the standards of American English grammar and syntax. During the denial stage, we were too optimistic about the simple programmability of AI tools like ChatGPT.
  2. Anger: As our AI exploration progressed, unexpected challenges surfaced. The unpredictable nature of AI occasionally led to errors or excursions in its responses, leaving us frustrated and agitated. Questions arose: Why isn't the AI delivering exactly what we expect? How can we make it more predictable and precise in its responses?
  3. Bargaining: Faced with AI's quirks, we sought ways to strike a better balance between human guidance and AI's brilliance. We adjusted prompts and parameters, hoping to optimize our collaboration with the AI language model. It felt like a bargaining process, searching for a formula to consistently achieve ideal outcomes.
  4. Depression: Despite our efforts, moments of discouragement and uncertainty ensued. We realized that AI, like any human, isn't infallible. Experiencing a low period, we grappled with the limitations of AI and the unpredictability of the process.
  5. Acceptance: Persisting with patience and flexibility, we accepted that AI language models, like humans, exhibit flashes of brilliance alongside occasional missteps. Instead of attempting to control every aspect, we embraced AI's unpredictable nature and recognized that collaboration, not control, was the key to unlocking its potential. This marked a turning point in our journey with AI-assisted marketing.

Embracing the Future

With acceptance came a newfound appreciation for the fusion of human and artificial intelligence. We now understand that AI is not merely a tool but an integral part of our team. The natural user-interaction capabilities of AI tools allowed for playful experimentation with often surprising results. We do not? view AI as a replacement for human contribution but as a powerful complement that elevates our marketing capabilities to new heights.

We firmly believe that the fusion of human and artificial intelligence holds the key to the future of marketing. Our journey so far has taught us invaluable lessons about collaboration, persistence, and flexibility. Having experienced the five stages of grief, we now embrace the unpredictable brilliance of AI as a critical yet imperfect team member, propelling us toward creative and data-driven brilliance.

Insightful stuff, I know that personally I am myself skiddish to incorporate AI tools into my daily life (or at least the parts I can choose to). While I am personally not looking into marketing as a use of these tools for myself (at least in the short term), I know that as we as human flesh-creatures (??) are most effective when we take advantage of technology to improve our systems and engagement. As you’ve mentioned, neither us nor AI can do it alone as well as “we” can do it together.
