How to Embrace the Ebb and Flow of Your Ambition in 2025

How to Embrace the Ebb and Flow of Your Ambition in 2025

Issue 13 | Embracing Ambition’s Ebb and Flow

About a week ago, I set a goal to publish even more of my writing. I decided to lean first into my Forbes column where I have the privilege of being able to publish as little or as much as I want each month as a contributor.

I recently realized that this boundlessness of ‘as much or as little’ has made me overthink my approach.

Should I post once a week? Every day? Once per month? Too many decisions led to paralysis.

And then.

Last week I got this divine message:

“Maybe the way to unlock more opportunities is to first MAXIMIZE the opportunities you have.”

That’s the mindset I ended the year with, and with this newfound attitude to maximize what I have before asking God to send me more (catch that — there’s a lesson in that for you, too) I started doing what I do.

I got in the zone. I made a list of my existing ideas and began hammering out pieces.

You know how it goes, once you get into the rhythm of creation, you’re hit with a flood of creative energy. Using your creativity doesn’t use it up, it simply generates more creativity. (Shout out to Maya Angelou).

It was in this flurry of writing, and dragging my iPad from room to room around the house that my oldest Logan noticed my newly reclaimed productivity. As we sat on the floor in my 4-year-old’s bedroom while I polished up my last article of the year, I bragged to Logan about the creative energy that had finally come home.

Having known me up close and personal for 17 years, Logan casually said something that caught my attention.

“While you’re in this mode, why don’t you write some extra pieces to publish for when you crash?”

Erm, excuse me?

For WHEN I crash?

I felt a bit crestfallen, and honestly completely naked. I felt seen in a way that I didn’t want to feel seen. Because Logan’s words resonated deeply. As my friend Reisha says “You know the truth when you hear it…” Read the rest on Substack

As a coach to high achievers who often have no lack of talents or ideas, overthinking is one of the biggest hurdles I see that keeps most people from moving forward with their goals.

In fact, overthinking is a burnout behavior - a symptom of what I call “machine mindset” that expends unnecessary energy and can add to feelings of exhaustion.

High achievers often want to see the entire staircase instead of just one step before getting started. They demand to know how the smallest expenditure of effort and energy will pay them back in success down the road. But often, the simple act of moving an idea forward to its next phase can offer much satisfaction regardless of the arbitrary success metrics reached.

If you’ve struggled to build momentum for your personal brand project, creative idea, or business venture, here are four steps you can take to stop overthinking your ideas and start making progress in the new year. ??Read How to Stop Overthinking Ideas and Start Building Momentum in 4 Steps in FORBES
