Last week's email showed you that leading (not managing) is your key to business growth this year.
I can hear what you’re thinking:
“That’s great, Yewande… but HOW exactly do I embrace leading and let go of managing?!”
Let's get into the nitty-gritty of leading versus managing.
?? From Execution to Vision:
Managers thrive in the minutiae - the details, the fine print. Leaders are up in the clouds, envisioning the big picture.
Firstly, have you decided where you’re going?
It’s easy to get caught up in being reactive - focusing on tactical, short-term firefighting.
But this isn’t moving your business forward.
It’s time to get proactive - prioritising the strategic, long-term needle movers.
This will require you to take a step back from the daily execution to look at the bigger picture.
Carve out time to cast your vision and goals. ?
Then bring your people along for the ride…
?? From Processes to People:
Managers are process-driven. Leaders are people-focused.
Big audacious goals aren’t much use if you don’t have the buy-in of your team.
After all, they’re the ones who will help you translate that vision into reality.

Their individual strengths, weaknesses and aspirations are all an important part of your strategy.
So, how do you get their buy-in?
Simple – share your big vision with them. And communicate it often.
This will move them from task-tickers to purpose-driven, passionate collaborators. ?
?? From Control to Empowerment:
Managers assign tasks. Leaders assign responsibilities.
With your goals decided and your team on board, you’re going to need to step aside.
I know, I know… the thought of losing control is uncomfortable…
But if you want to direct your energy and resources to maximise impact and accelerate growth, you’re going to need to trust your team to deliver results in their areas of expertise.
Make intentional decisions about where to invest your time, effort, and resources, based on your goals for the most impactful results… and leave the rest to your team. ?
