I have read many inspirational and motivational books in my life, but none has changed my perception of mistakes and drawing conclusions from them like the author of “Black Box Thinking” - Mathew Syed. The book answers for an important and simple question: How do some people acknowledge and learn from their mistakes and become better while others never seem to improve? There is one problem I have observed. Throughout our school education, nobody teaches young generations how to learn from their mistakes. So, what steps need to be taken to draw a conclusion from our mistakes?
This wonderful book explains how to use our mistakes as learning tools and what’s more important, what is the secret for turning failures into success.
The most significant thing I have found in the book is that it contains real-life examples. These are not only exuberant thoughts of the author, but documented stories that can be further explored. Don’t you know how deal with failures? This book is a great choice for you.
My favorite part is about human EGO. Why human ego is so important? Because ego is the main reason why people can't admit mistakes. All of us know that the best way to excuse all failures is to blame someone or something. This is the part where ego wakes up. “It’s impossible that this is my fault…“ Human nature blames tools, parents, background and friends, drugs, weather or something else besides ourselves.
I have read an opinion, that “Becoming a Black box thinker will undoubtedly make you more successful in life.” I agree with that one hundred percent. Begin to see the mistakes and draw conclusions from them, and over time the lessons learned from them will start to pay off.
I highly recommend the book! It will give you powerful tools to deal with your biggest weakness that includes blaming everything that surrounds you.
Read the advice below to improve your performance:
1. Take responsibility for your actions - Look at yourself and how you contribute to failures. Thanks to this, you can use information about what you could have done better or differently.
2. Pay attention to feedback – Once, I read that there are no mistakes, there is only feedback about our work, behavior and attitude.
3. Draw conclusions - check what this particular experience has taught you. Be open to understand what you get from your failure, what could you do in a different way if you have the opportunity to do it again.
Remember, this is nothing wrong you make bad choices. Everyone does.
