Overconforming to traditional norms might be triggered by cultural expectations that heavily emphasize rigid conformity and the fear of rejection, driving individuals to prioritize fitting into established societal norms. To address this tendency positively, organizations can introduce diversity and inclusion initiatives, creating an environment that values individuality and diverse perspectives. Managers can pick up on verbal cues, such as an excessive emphasis on adhering to traditional norms, by asking questions like, "How do you navigate cultural expectations in our work environment, and are there past influences shaping your approach to conformity?" Nonverbal cues, like avoiding behaviors that deviate from established norms, can be explored with questions such as, "I notice a consistent alignment with established norms in your work. How do you feel about breaking away from traditions, and are there specific influences from your past guiding this emphasis on conformity?" This approach aims to understand and positively transform the trait of overconforming to traditional norms, fostering a more inclusive and innovative workplace.
