One of the questions that I get asked quite frequently is: how easy is it to publish a book?
To me publishing a book is relatively easy. I've published both ebooks and print books, and I've published via Amazon, Lulu and IngramSpark. All you need is a book cover and a book insert, and the book insert needs to be formatted a specific way and...
And there's the thing.
I found publishing a book relatively easy because I've spent years learning how.
I spent a couple of years using MS Word and then went on to take the Microsoft specialist exams at the expert level. That meant that when I looked at how to format ebooks for Amazon, I realised it wasn't much different to some of the user guides I created as an IT Trainer.
And when it came time to look at publishing print books, I learned about book sizes and bleed.
I learned why you should use section breaks at the end of each chapter.
I learned how to format headers properly.
And I learned how setting up a couple of styles can allow you to format a whole novel quickly and cleanly.
Now I teach others how to publish their own books, and the feedback I tend to get is that yes, it can be easy to publish a book, but only when you have the right support behind you.

So if you would like to publish a book in 2022, then my free challenge is running again next week, and there's still time to join.
The reality is that yes, publishing a book can be hard.
But when you have the right training and support, and when that training is fun, then it becomes possible, as so many people who tried the challenge last year found out.
One of my favourite quotes is by Emily Dickinson sums up the approach I take in the challenge: "Whenever a thing is done for the first time, it releases a little demon” and so my goal for those taking part next week this week is that they can release that little publishing demon.
