Driving a short distance without instruments in a supercar at 300 plus km per hour would be feasible but not advisable, going the distance on a track is most definitely not, yet many companies would embark on Digital Transformation projects without over-the-top predictability and visibility of their devices,?usage billable events?and proper analytics.
Having?visibility and the?ability to?understand?usage,?and other valuable data in a simple interface business professionals can drill down per event, per country, and even per device, allocating and accounting for usage down to minutia?in addition to having a complete view, predictability, and control of their global business.
If you are multinational generating billions of billable events with?hundreds of?thousands of?devices with different plans,?carriers, third-party suppliers, complex value chains, etc.. How do you?efficiently control your operation without the proper visibility of the data generated by your IoT devices?
Would be nice to be able to drill down on a customized dashboard and with fingertip control of your?operation letting concentrate on day-to-day business and client satisfaction.
In a supercar, the need for more speed is welcome,?and the same in your business?which requires a fast?overview dashboard?with an intuitive insight into business?metrics?providing a?snapshot?of the state of your services and connected business achieving true business agility.
Every supercar has a proper easy-to-view and?read?dashboard which gives the driver the alerts needed to?prevent or react to a major issue manifesting in the?engine, Etc.?The same should take place in your business, IoT usage data will provide you with dynamic agility and granularity to gain real-time critical insights of paramount importance. Having this level of information at the right moment will prevent costly major issues and increase the performance of your business and instrumental in reducing?operational costs and increasing the chances of a?successful Digital Transformation Journey.
The next?frontier is to be able to?triage real-time events down to the sensor/device level regardless if they are?software,?hardware, or network?connectivity related, this will add a?different?dimension to any operation, imagine being able to react and predict potential errors in your business and make?adjustments, changes, and?tweaks on the run.
Formula One teams use sensors and IoT devices to correlate and aggregate events in real-time of everything happening in the car, airliner jet engines generate petabytes of data in every flight. In these two examples, we are talking about millions of events processed in real-time the difference is that they don't have a monetary value tag. Having a holistic view of these data you can launch and enable outcome-based business models.
In the not-so-distant?future, one of the risks businesses will face is having?millions if not billions of?IoT devices forgotten and being unaware of their?status, are they active? Are they still?pinging the network? consuming?bandwidth? Are?they a security?threat? Are they generating billable events and are we losing money? Etc.

Knowing what is active and needed for?operational needs should be controlled and?whatever is no one should?have the ability to activate and deactivate on the fly, thus having control of these events should be part of a?seamless orchestration suite which is part of a?connectivity value chain of usage automation, usage orchestration, usage security, and?usage analytics.
In?other words, an elegant way of?efficiently and effectively validating and introducing usage price plans, in minutes versus weeks or months with spreadsheets and reducing the cost associated with the management of?contractual arrangements in a controlled and?agile manner!
Since IoT/ Digital Transformation is a catalyst and enabler for sustainability one would envision the next-generation supercar to be powered by fuel cells, thus it would be nice for Tesla in Ludricous Mode to be in the lineup amongst these brands.
In supercar?terms, an IoT roll-out should provide the same experience to a business, a driving enthusiast will feel behind the wheel of the?masterpiece nostalgia of an Enzo, the agility and?performance of the La Ferrari, the elegance of a Bentley, the?thoughtful engineering of a Porsche 918 all packaged in a new dimension of super-car the?Bugatti Chiron, of course in my humble opinion the equivalent in Digital Transformation terms is
"The Orchestrator of the outcome-based economy can only be achieved with a holistic fingertip control of your business"
