There are only so many posts you can write each week or month, and if you’re producing great content, they will quickly be consumed by your audience. This can lead to a number of problems, but it’s important to find solutions to them as they arise. One of the best ways to keep your existing content from going stale is to repurpose it into something new and useful for your audience. Here are some ideas on how to drive more traffic to your old blog posts.
Why you should repurpose your content?
If you have old blog posts that are no longer getting much traffic, there's no need to delete them or leave them to languish! With a little bit of effort, you can give them new life and drive more traffic to your site.
- Add in the title of the post to your site's navigation bar: Simply create a text widget on the sidebar with the post title and then link it to the original post. When people click on the post title from your sidebar, they'll be taken to the full post which will help keep those links active.
- Consider including older posts in social media content The Facebook algorithm changes constantly so there is no guarantee that your post from last year will show up when someone searches for old blogs. However, if you include one or two old posts in each batch of updates you do via Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter (especially during times when these platforms might not show as many recent posts), you're bound to get a good response from followers who want to revisit past content. Remember to use hashtags like #throwbackthursday, #tbt, and #oldiebutgoodie for even better results.
- Repurpose your content: One way to really breathe new life into old posts is by taking snippets of their content and creating slideshows or animated GIFs that you can share across different networks like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin.
How do you go about repurposing old content?
One way to repurpose old content is by giving it a new title and graphics. This will help it show up in search engines as new content and help you get more traffic to your site. You can also break down old posts into smaller pieces and use them as social media posts or email newsletter content. If you have an evergreen post, you can update it with new information and republish it. This is a great way to keep your content fresh and drive more traffic to your site. There are so many different ways that you can reuse older content. Some of the other methods that I’ve seen are using outdated articles as quotes for blog posts, writing a blog series from old content and starting from the beginning, turning older posts into podcasts (especially if they are interviews), turning long-form articles into infographics or slideshows (depending on the type of blog post) or turning those long-form articles into webinars.
