How to Download YouTube Videos
Three of the most common reasons why people try to download YouTube videos straight to their devices are:
- You won’t have Internet access later when you’re ready to watch the video.
- These are your own videos on your own channel and you want to know how to back up your videos.
- You’re interested in repurposing or sharing other people’s content.
Sharing other people’s content by downloading them and then publishing them under your account is in most cases illegal. It’s illegal to downlod certain videos and it’s something you don’t want to be doing. I recommend becoming familiar with YouTube’s Fair Use Policy first if you’re considering repurposing.
Now if you’re downloading YOUR OWN videos from your own channel, that’s a different story.
> Go to your YouTube Account > Go to Video Manager > Click on the drop-down arrow beside ‘Edit’ > Click on Download MP4
Doing this will allow you to download the whole file back to your computer.
Another way to download YouTube videos is through your very own iPhone. To be able to do this, you’ll need Internet access first. The goal is to download and save the video to your phone for later viewing in some place where there’s no WiFi or any other Internet access.
This option will need for you to subscribe to YouTube Red where you will have to pay $10/month for the server. With YouTube Red, your YouTube experience come with zero ads.
To use YouTube Red:
- Go to your Account page (click the person icon highlighted white).
- Click the icon showing an underlined down arrow located on the right side of the screen.
- Wait for the blue circle indicating it’s downloading/saving to stop.
Now the video is available for your viewing even in places where there’s no Internet access. That’s how to save YouTube videos to your computer AND to your iPhone!
