How to Doodle on Snapchat?—?Everything You Need to Know

I was never really the artsy type, but I knew that drawing was something that could really help to set me apart as I first started using Snapchat. It was definitely a process to learn, and even now I am not much of an artist, but I slowly was able to learn the ways of the doodle and it made my Snapchat stories come to life!!

Not everyone will be a master of drawing on Snapchat, and that’s okay! What you can master though is adding color, creativity and emojis to grab and maintain a user’s attention. With an app like Snapchat that is constantly refreshing and new content being just a swipe away, keeping the audience engaged is key!

Android vs. iPhone

You need to be aware that Snapchat is an entirely different app for iPhone users and Android users. The differences are especially noticeable with the creative tools found in the app.

The color palette is designed with unique features on each platform. On iOS, the color palette is continuous with no defined colors, making it almost impossible to go back to any previous color that you had used. On Android, each color is separated and given an option for a lighter or darker shade, which also makes it super simple to return to a needed color.

Android users also have the option of adding a dark or light opacity for each color. This can be especially useful for creating dimension, shading, or highlighting your doodle. Opacities aren’t available in the iPhone app.

There will also be differences on the hardware side. In my experience, the iPhone’s glass screen seems less effective at tracking your finger than the Android devices I’ve used. Overall, Android devices have smooth tracking, giving a more consistent curve and edges when doodling.

Some people also prefer the option of using a stylus. iPhones do not come with a stylus, but some Android phones do. I personally prefer using my finger to draw on Snapchat, but having the option of a stylus might be useful for you.

iPhone does seem to have the advantage when it comes to video in Snapchat. The iOS Snapchat app posts video in a noticeably higher resolution than the Android phones do. Android phones take great photos and videos, but Snapchat doesn’t respond well to the high resolution of Android phones.

If you are wanting to take your Snapchat game to the next level it might be wise to have both options readily available. Both are useful in their own ways.

Draw, Doodle, Just Make Something

I’ve always thought art was awesome, but I never really went further than your typical high school art classes.

Drawing on Snapchat is a skill I worked to acquire. When I first downloaded the app, I thought, “Oh, there’s a drawing tool, maybe I should add color to make this story more exciting and unique.”

From there I decided that as often as possible my snaps would incorporate an extra level of creativity and doodling.

Instead of just sending a picture, I doodled. Here are my first three snaps:
