How Does Your Garden Grow?

Over the years I have found gardening to be therapeutic. It is beneficial on so many levels. Just being around nature can improve your mood, making you feel more at peace. The act of digging, planting, and watering can help take your mind off of the stresses of daily life.

Around 8 years ago I moved to an apartment and as the years went by I let my gardening interests lapse. We had access to a plot up the road and so growing veggies at the apartment seemed overkill. While I did grow some flowers, chillies and a few herbs, I didn't really feel the need nor think to expand the area further.

Life moves on and due to a marriage bust-up, I no longer have access to the garden plot up the road. Over the last week, I began to think about the benefits of expanding what I was growing on my balcony. Why not grow more? I truly enjoy the crop of chillies and so I began looking into what would work on my tiny balcony.

Well, the proof happened over the weekend with the Bunning's website collapse. Wow, who would have believed it would take something like this to push us all to be proactive and take action and want to grow our own produce.

Research tells us when faced with a crisis we automatically go into survival mode. Maybe the wavelength of everyone's combined energy created this movement and swing towards a healthier option of growing your own crops and the mad rush on chicken coops and hens.

If like me you are in an apartment I agree it is a little harder to succeed in veggie growing and yet I believe 100% it is achievable with a little extra effort. You can grow vegetables out of season with a little ingenuity and effort. Even the smallest balcony can yield produce.

If you have no balcony then setup space near a window. Forget the negative of I don't have the right area. Switch it around to how can I make this area work?

If you have never grown anything before now's the time. It doesn't have to be veggies, even flowers or herbs are satisfying to grow.

I plan to share my photos, videos, posts on the setting up and progress of my little vegetable and herb patch. My aim is to show even with a small area anyone can grow their own produce.
