I guess a connected bicycle would still be considered V2X, but pedestrians, when they connect to the infrastructure, is the P2I? In all seriousness, since V2P exists (maybe cellphones could beacon a runner on a dark country lane, or live bus ETA updates), why not P2I, I can imagine use cases around pre-emptive crosswalk signal activation, train approach notification at uncontrolled railroad crossings, maybe even use cases to alert bridge operators of a pedestrains presence, especially if inclement weather is hampering CCTV. What is the term for "person to infrastructure?"

Don't want to rain on your parade, cause this is wonderful drilac technology evolution... However, the question still remains - despite the financials and the tech evolution, how do you get the human driver to give up the keys? As far as technology communications are concerned, IP.V6, VPN and SDN will take care of the integration issues involved with all of the items described in this articles that use the word, "communications"... Again, the question is how do you get drivers to give up mastery of their vehicles? It's a right of passage from parent to almost grown child for which there is intense resistance, as drilacs would have been more plentiful since 2017.
