How does a great learning experience deliver value to the business?
Digital HR Leaders Podcast - EP81 - Peter Manniche Riber, Novo Nordisk

How does a great learning experience deliver value to the business?

Learning has to come with questions: How will it provide value to the business? How are you going to measure that? What indicators in the business do you want to see a change in?

Great learning experiences should deliver value to the individual, by opening up new opportunities and career paths. Great learning experience should also create value for the organisation.?

In this week's episode of the Digital HR Leaders Podcast, my guest is Peter Manniche Riber, Head of Digital Learning and Analytics at Novo Nordisk. As you'll hear, Peter talks to me about what a great learning experience should look like, and how learning delivers value to the business and the workforce. ?

Curation and learning experience design, are two aspects I foresee are going to be really important to L&D in the future

Throughout this episode, Peter and I discuss:

  • The impact of the pandemic on learning: "The shift to remote work and digital ways of working has democratised learning and made it more inclusive."
  • What a great learning experience looks like and how it delivers value to the business: "Learning must always come with that question. How is this going to provide value in the business after people have taken it? And how are you going to measure that?"
  • How to measure the business impact of learning, using business indicators and data that already exists in the organisation: "Sales is an easy win to start out with. You have got sales; it goes up and down and you can actually track that down to individuals. You can analyse is this training contributing to sales growth or the opposite, or nothing at all?"
  • How to focus on the ethics of analysing learning data to deliver value not only to the business but to the individual as well
  • What we mean by data driven learning design and why it’s so important: "There are so many data points that you can take a look at, and you need to get used to, as a learning designer, to make that design, data driven.?But first and foremost, I believe that it has to derive from the line of business to some extent, so that we are acting on what is going on in the business."

In pilot studies in Novo Nordisk, there is a 4.7 times better chance that you actually do it (participate in the recommended learning) if we personalise the message

Enjoy - and please let me know in the comments section your thoughts and any questions after listening to the episode.

Love the emphasis here on impact David Green. For as much as that is the goal, too often the focus is on the learning program itself and less on the learner’s experience, value creation and impact thereafter. So many nuggets shared in this conversation. Left with a page of notes, thank you and thank you Peter Manniche Riber. It’s great to meet you Peter. #learning #futureofwork

Great session! However, saying that "digital learning is more inclusive" is quite a big generalization, as in fact in many industry having the right level of digital literacy, access to devices and time is still quite exclusive. I see this having high dependency with the role and the industry you sit in.
