The Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is a software application used by employers to manage the recruitment process, including receiving, sorting, and tracking job applications. Here's a general overview of how the ATS system works for CVs:
1. Resume Submission: Job seekers submit their resumes (CVs) through the company's career portal or email address. Some companies also allow for resume submission through job boards or recruitment agencies.
2. Parsing: The ATS parses (reads and extracts) the content of the resume into specific categories, such as contact information, work experience, education, skills, and qualifications. This helps the system to organize and categorize the information for easy retrieval and analysis.
3. Keyword Matching: The ATS scans the resume for keywords and phrases that match the job description. Keywords are specific skills, qualifications, or experiences that are relevant to the job. Resumes that contain relevant keywords are more likely to be selected for further review by recruiters.
4. Ranking: Based on the keyword matching and other criteria set by the employer, the ATS ranks the resumes in order of relevance to the job. Resumes that closely match the job requirements are ranked higher and are more likely to be considered for the next stage of the recruitment process.
5. Screening: Recruiters or hiring managers review the top-ranked resumes to determine which candidates to invite for interviews. The ATS provides tools for recruiters to screen, filter, and shortlist candidates based on various criteria, such as skills, experience, and qualifications.

6. Communication: The ATS may also facilitate communication between recruiters and candidates, such as sending automated emails to acknowledge receipt of the application, request additional information, or schedule interviews.
7. Tracking and Reporting: The ATS tracks the status of each application throughout the recruitment process, from submission to hire or rejection. It also generates reports and analytics to help recruiters evaluate the effectiveness of their recruitment efforts and identify areas for improvement.
Overall, the ATS streamlines the recruitment process by automating many of the manual tasks involved in reviewing and managing job applications. However, it's important for job seekers to tailor their resumes for ATS optimization by using relevant keywords and formatting that is ATS-friendly.
