The SDN controller design can be divided into the design deployed by fabric and the design deployed by service.
1: Design by Fabric Deployment
Each Fabric independently deploys a set of SDN controllers and the corresponding cloud platform. The bank's unified business cloud management platform is the entrance of the business. It coordinates the computing, storage and network resources of multiple Openstack cloud platforms to achieve agile business provisioning and resource pool sharing.
Deploy controllers and cloud platforms in-band. The picture shows the solution of deploying SDN controllers by fabric in a bank data center. In this solution, 9 sets of SDN controllers are deployed in 8 fabrics.
The advantage of this deployment is that the controller and cloud platform instance are deployed corresponding to the Fabric, and the security and reliability are guaranteed to the highest level;
Multiple sets of controllers are independently deployed, with a small management domain and a small fault domain, and supports grayscale upgrades and on-demand activation.

2: Design deployed by business type
Deploy SDN controllers according to service types, which are divided into intranet (or open platform) services, external network (DMZ) services, and development and testing services. One type of service deploys an SDN controller cluster and one or more sets of OpenStack cloud platforms. The computing, storage and network resources can be distributed quickly, and the resource pool can be shared.

This solution deploys 4 sets of SDN controllers, corresponding to the production intranet, production extranet, and service assurance intranet. Later, 4 sets of SDN controllers were newly deployed. Intranet, extranet, big data, development and testing respectively.
The advantages of this deployment are that a set of controllers manages all fabrics of the same type, multiple fabric resources are scheduled in a unified manner, flexible mutual access (the mutual access of similar services does not go through the firewall, and the mutual access of different types goes through the firewall), reliability and flexibility. ; The management domain is large, but a controller failure only affects service provisioning.
