How do you take on feedback?

I used to hate getting #feedback! Every time I got feedback as a kid, back when a smack from a teacher was the norm, feedback would mean a sore hand or a sore behind, followed by some verbal rending. If you can relate, who can blame you? All throughout your school, were you rewarded because you improved or you got things right? I would bet for most of us, it was the latter which really doesn't prepare us for reality.

I have always been glad that I am supremely untalented but I do have discipline. When I learnt about the #slightedge mentality I fell in love with this concept. It helped me realise, there is always progression to look forward to . If you have clear goals and #vision, each adjustment is a step towards that realisation.?

It all starts with feedback.

Some tips to help you in embracing feedback:

  1. Be #appreciative! Remember that no-one has to give you feedback, even if you ask. It's easier to not help someone and move on, there's millions of people to work with. For example, I gave feedback to two people recently about their work - one was super appreciative and grateful, while the other regarded me as being cynical. Who do you think I will help in future? Who do you think I will try to avoid working with again?
  2. Be discerning. Sometimes people who shouldn't give you feedback do so. What is their motivation in helping you? Do they have expertise in the field? One challenge I see is people taking #financial guidance from people with emotionally vested interest rather than those with financially vested interest. This is not being logical and discerning.
  3. If it hurts you, it will help you! Real feedback hurts. I had amazing feedback just this morning about my physique by someone who I respect. Does it hurt sometimes, you bet! It hurts because it's true. It challenges beliefs and routines that just aren't serving you.
  4. Act quickly! Apply good feedback immediately. Not tomorrow, right now! Each moment you waste is one moment closer to the end you won't get back. Also, people who give you feedback will know you're serious and you respect them which they will take on-board in future.

?Hope this gives you some food for thought!

I can say, feedback keep me going. Whether it is positive or negative I am still encouraging my leader and team to speak about it. So that I can fix the weaknesses and develop the strength..
