How do you start your day?

How do you start your day?

I wanted to share something with you that has really helped me: since I have been here in the Canary Islands for the past few months, I have changed my morning routine.

I used to wake up and get straight to work. To be honest with you, I have never considered myself a morning person. And this is probably an advantage for me - as most of our clients are in the USA, it pays off for me to be super alert in the afternoon and early evening when I usually connect with them!

Nevertheless, I started a new morning routine about a month ago. Now, before I even check my emails, the first 1.5 hours of the day are exclusively for me.

I have heard countless times about people doing this and didn’t really implement it before. The most I would make time for was a 10 or 20 minute morning meditation.

Now I am getting up to run in front of the ocean, come home and finish with a few more exercises, some time meditating and visualizing, and a few affirmations.

My coach originally suggested that I set aside this time to be spiritual and I took her up on it. I also read through “The Morning Miracle” and found that this type of routine works great for me.

Some of the benefits I have seen from it:

 1. Starting the day without work right away really allows me to have a full perspective on my overall vision for my life and move out of any “reactive” mode that I would normally feel by automatically wanting to check emails and execute.

2. Exercising right away really awakens my body.

3. Having a work-free breakfast further helps me reflect on what are my goals for the day and how do they fit-in to what I want to accomplish.

I have to say: this has also had a positive overall effect on my business and outcomes too.

Clarity is so important, and that is what I think I am building from it every morning!

These are just a few of the benefits, and now I am hooked. So - have you thought about improving your morning routine?

Had the same routine for many years - weekdays, work out for 45min, shower, breakfast with the paper. Not on the beach though - gotta figure out how to add that!

If I were in the Canary Islands, it would be difficult to get into a work routine.
