Workplace inclusion is defined as, employees feeling valued and accepted in their team and in the wider organisation, without having to conform. Inclusive organisations support employees, regardless of their background or circumstance, to thrive at work. It is fundamentally about individual experience and allowing everyone within the organisation to feel like they are playing an important part.
People perform better when they feel like they are valued and that they can be themselves. There are a few ways below to demonstrate your commitment to inclusion to all employees:
Allow employees to have a voice –?When employees feel like they “have a voice,” they are more likely to share their opinions with others. You can give employees a voice by:
Managers at all levels of the organisation should also be willing to listen to inclusion-related concerns without passing judgment or sweeping concerns to the side. When possible, reward or thank employees for sharing their honest feedback and working to make the organisation more inclusive.

Access to learning and development opportunities –?Employees who have access to learning and development opportunities know that their organisation cares about them, their ideas, and their growth. Provide opportunities for development by starting a mentoring program, offering ongoing training, or allowing employees to attend conferences, webinars, etc. related to their jobs. If your organisation doesn’t have a training and development lead, you may want to consider using e-learning tools or hiring an external trainer to deliver courses or workshops.
Accepting and embracing change –?Change is inevitable. An inclusive organisation recognises that current and past practices must constantly be reviewed and updated to meet the changing demands and needs of the business. For example, the introduction of hybrid working over the last few years has been a huge change. Organisations that have accepted this have seen the benefit, as hybrid working is now seen as a desirable working style and can attract a much larger talent pool. It also led to an increase in inclusivity as employee’s feel their needs are met as they have more freedom to work from different locations.
