How do you show God's love?

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

?How do you show love? Do you show love to your spouse with endearing words and nice gifts? Do you show your children love by providing for all their needs (and some wants, also?) Do you protect your family as much as you can?

?Love is central to our faith. There are many ways that God has shown us His love, and since He IS love, His love lives in us, if we really believe and serve Him.

?1 Corinthians 13 is called “The Love Chapter” in the Bible. Read this and see why:

?“If I speak in the tongues?of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,?but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Examine your motives whenever you show God’s love to someone. Ensure that you are coming from a pure place, not one where you seek to get something in return for that love. It’s all too easy to think that if you are performing some kind of service that you will be rewarded, such as working at a mission and serving meals.

?We can think that God will look down on us and see that we are serving Him, and we may believe that we will get something for doing that. If we do, then we already have our reward. We should do these things as a matter of course, not just for show or personal gain.

?Think first of God, then others, then yourselves. We are to be last, because God is first in all things. If we are rewarded, it will be up to God to decide, not us. Praise Him and serve Him, and whatever rewards come our way will likely be eternal, not necessarily the material things of this world.
