How do you show commitment?

How do you show commitment?

My marriage did not start out as a classic fairy tale. I was a single mom, already marinating in a few abandonment issues from my biological father. My psychological profile screamed that if I was going to get married, it had better be to superman because he would need to overcome a few obstacles to secure this deal.

In fact, I needed someone like my adoptive father, who had the grit and stamina to accept and love a child who yearned to have a sense of belonging. What you may not know about kids with abandonment issues is that they have a high tendency to sabotage relationships. It gives them a sense of power, “I will leave you before you have the chance of hurting me” and yet they crave commitment. It is pretty messed up, as my 11 years old daughter will say, but it is what it is.

What does this have to do with your brand or writing? Connecting with your audience through effective storytelling is a way of building trust with them in a deep and meaningful way that shows that you “get them.” Many prospects for your business want to know what you will be in it with them for the long haul. They need you to build trust, just like my husband had to build trust with me before I was ready to risk committing myself and my daughter to his care.

So how did my husband build this trust with me?

During our courting, we shared words, history and experiences. It turned out that after the death of his first wife; he was a single parent for a season. That built a connection between us. I realized that he understood some of what I was experiencing. When my 2-year-old daughter got pneumonia and I had reached the end of my tether, he helped care for her. That showed me he had the skills to take the load off for me. Are you noticing that through this article, I am busy painting a character profile for you to peer into our souls?

If we were your prospects, could you see what our potential objections would be for your products?

What I most needed was commitment and not just a marriage contract. I needed the “I will be with you for the long haul,” kind of commitment. In the same way, your clients need to know that you get them and that when thing go wrong, as they will from time to time, that you will be there for them.

You may think that a daily, weekly or monthly, newsletter is just an added weight on your already hefty “to do” list, but it is an effective tool to build trust with your best audience; not to mention a helpful SEO boost. I teach my clients to dig deep and find connection points with their prospects and existing clients.

Because I know the stamina that it takes to commit to a regular writing schedule, I create one-day workshops where they can pre-plan their messages.

I am not talking about scheduling software, that you can get anywhere. I am talking about a real connection that flows into the written word that shows you are not just in it for quick cheap thrills. You are the real deal and really “get” your clients.

It's incredible how we share the same sentiment of the get to know, like, and trust factor. Moreover, it's truly amazing how you skillfully sketch a picture with valuable insights, connecting the dots between people's reactions and behaviors in their adult lives and the impact of their childhood experiences. Love this!
