How do you share your content more effectively ? (Content Basicz)

Having high value content is key to delivering value to your audience ... but if you don't share it effectively then who is going to .... "Effectively sharing" is relative to

  • this piece of content
  • and this audience

i.e. the same piece of content for a different audience would need to be shared differently to be effectively shared in that instance

Its not enough to rely on sharing your content on your feed if you want to be sharing your content effectively: here are the additional layers to add to your sharing strategy:

  1. Groups: Share your content on Groups (your own and other users groups - you can be part of up to 100 groups currently)
  2. Hashtags: Use at least hashtags (some with FOLLOWing in the ten of thousands to hundreds of thousands if you can) that are relevant to this piece of content and the audience you are sharing it with when you post on your Newsfeed
  3. Images: use images that are relevant and attract the right attention from the audience you want the attention from
  4. Hooks: use hooks (the sentence shared with the post that entice me to read the rest) when you share the content that are short, engaging and relevant to the intended audience for this piece of content
  5. Timing: the time of day / day of the week that you share your content is relative to your intended audience. Is your audience / network all in one time zone ? or multiple time zones ? If this specific the intended audience for example a group based in London may be most active at a specific time: e.g. 7 am to 8 am their time). This is relevant for posts on your feed and in groups.
  6. Direct Message: share connect directly where you can - send this piece of content to a specific connection in direct message because they have already expressed an interest in this topic / this type of feedback from you
  7. Pages: share your content on your page so the FOLLOWers on your page can consume that specific content. Share on Company Pages and Showcase Pages - depending on the focus of the content and the focus of the Page
  8. Variety Format: text / video - using a variety of formats helps make the content more interesting to frequent consumers (that is to
  9. Variety Focus; tips your audience would find helpful or questions your audience has on the subject or how to guides that your audience can use to help them improve this aspect of their life / business ... producing content to address the different perspectives your audience has on the subject ensure you appeal to a wider range of perspectives
  10. Variety "Size": blogz, Blogz, UserGuidez: producing your content in different bite sizes (time required to consume the content ie the length of the content):
  • blogs that are just a post, a few lines of text, a single point and can be consumed in less than a minute versus a
  • Blogz which is an article like this one, takes a few minutes to consume and contains multiple points versus a
  • UserGuidez which contains five minutes plus of content that the consumers can walk away and practice and apply -
  • the different bite sizes caters for different appetites (amount of time the person has ... and also how endeared they are with your content ... when they have only just meet you they are unlikely to want to give you more than the seconds it takes to consume a blogz
  • Outside of LinkedIn, UserGuidez build into Coursez and Coursez into Programz as you help your audience learn and take the actions for long term improvement in an apsect of their life / business (The is all as per The Expert Model that we use)


Final thought on content: if you share your amazing content then I will be most grateful as your audience member as I will certainly enjoy consuming it ... however if you never also share how I can engage with you more deeply (try some of your paid service / offerings / training) then you may find yourself starving and me eventually deprived of the producer of this fine content: which is an outcome neither of us want !


The essence of LinkedIn: effectively sharing your own high value content targeted to a specific audience to encourage mutually beneficial conversations that create the opportunity of converting your audience into your customers / your connections

Side note 1: here is an example of a Direct Message (point 6 above) I might use to share this article with a specific connection (which is the best method of sharing your content as it highly personalised and your connection will receive a message notification which will stand out on their LinkedIn dashboard: "Good morning Kelly, you expressed an interest in one of my previous posts around sharing content more effectively. I have attached below a link to an article you find interesting entitled "10 Tips to "Effectively sharing" high-value targeted content". I look forward to receiving your feedback on which of those ten tips you found most useful."

Side note 2: sharing your content so that it is easy for your audience to find and consume is key. I'd like to engage more around number 8 - when is the right time to start posting videos and are they relevant to all audiences? E.g. In my field of work, it would be a good idea for an estate agent to make a video of a property right? But would it add value to my audience as a bond originator?
