Marketing. It is a vital part of any business. Marketing is the thought content of sales and it is typically the most visible part of a business. So how clear is yours? Is it black or gold?
The reason I pose this question is because many sales professionals create value statements that do not involve their potential client. How can you help them? When you speak to them can they understand how you can help them? Is your marketing even addressing their problems?
It is important to realize that we all do things for ourselves to some degree. Therefore, if you are receiving great resistance when approaching clients that need your services then they must not know the color of your outfit!
As a business professional in marketing, sales, or even as a business owner you should constantly check to make sure what your clients need and how your product/service provides a solution for that. You may be seeing a totally different view of your same service in your eyes as opposed to theirs.
In order to stay up to date on the value you provide:
- Think about why your most recent clients agreed to talk to you at all.
- Think about what solution you provided that was the most important to your most recent handful of clients.
- Look at the problems your clients face in their industry and see if your work would help with that or do nothing at all.
Of course this hinges on the fact that you're growing your business! If you haven't gotten "new" business in the past year then you may need to do some research. If you are growing your business then seeing through the eyes of your clients will continue to help you do so!
