How do you ‘own’ a project developed by an external team?

The software product development life cycle is an extensive, multi-step process that starts when your idea is born and continues when it’s made into a full-blown solution. Much effort is to be invested, but this will pay off.

To stay up-to-date with the progress of your project, work efficiently and make sure the final result is according to your requirements. Consider following some key indicators:

  • Reporting. Discuss with your software partner beforehand what type of reports will be provided to you - status reports, contractual service level agreements, Jira reports, etc.
  • Metrics. Before the project starts, you should agree on a particular set of metrics. Traditionally, vendors calculate project, process, and product-related metrics.

Keep in Mind.

Your software development project's success depends on your input level, the resources you put in the game, and your software development team's proficiency and expertise. It's always a team game.

Whenever you are at the start line of a new project, make sure you have the time and patience to get into the running track.
