This week all that I am sharing has been inspired by Dr Valerie Young as she is an expert in this field, a renowned speaker and has written books on the subject..?
Check out this infographic she put together about coping mechanisms.
They can work but they will become exhausting.
So…………
How do you deal with your inner Impostor? ??
Impostor Syndrome can be a challenging hurdle to overcome, but it's entirely possible to break free from its grip. Remember that success is not about being perfect or having all the answers; it's about learning and growing along the way.
Here is my Top 10 Tips for quietening the voice of your Impostor based on the work of Dr Valerie Young:
1.??? Speak Up – Share Your Feelings First things first, don't keep it all bottled up. We all go through times when we doubt ourselves. So, reach out to a friend, mentor, colleague (or coach ??) you trust, and have a heart-to-heart about it. You might be surprised how many people can relate!
2.??? Trust Your Gut, Not Your Doubts
You know that feeling when you're convinced, you're not as good as you are? Well, feelings can be deceiving! Just because you feel like a fraud doesn't mean you are one. Trust in your skills and achievements ??.
3.??? It's OK to Feel Out of Place Sometimes
Picture this: you're the first one to try something new at work, or you're the only one like you in the room. Feeling like you don't quite fit in is totally normal! It might just be society's stereotypes messing with your head ??.
4.??? Give Your Inner Perfectionist a Break
Being a perfectionist isn't all bad ??. It means you care deeply about what you do. But remember, perfection isn't always possible, and that's OK. Learn to embrace your mistakes; they are what helps you to learn.
5.??? Fail Forward
Failure isn't the end; it's a fresh start. Winston Churchill said "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." So instead of dwelling on your slip-ups ??, find the silver lining and keep moving forward ??.
6.??? Challenge Your Own Rules
Do you have some unwritten rules like "I should always know the answer" or "never ask for help"? Well, it's time to write those on post-it notes and screw them up one by one and throw them away i.e. let them go ??.
7.??? Rewrite Your Mental Script ??

When you're in a tough spot and that little voice inside starts whispering "you're not good enough," press the mute button. Remind yourself that you're on a learning journey and that everyone starts somewhere.
8.??? Imagine Your Success
Just like successful athletes visualise their wins, you can picture yourself smashing that presentation ????. Positive visualisation can help ease those nerves and boost your confidence.
9.??? Treat Yourself – You've Earned It ?
Instead of seeking approval from others all the time, pat yourself on the back. You've achieved so much, big or small. Celebrate your victories, and don't be shy about it! ??
10. Fake It ‘Til You Make It – It's a Skill
Confidence doesn't always come naturally; sometimes, you have to act the part before you feel it. Don't wait for confidence to magically appear – take those risks, and your confidence will catch up.? I remember hearing a quote once about sometimes needing to take a risk and jump and build the parachute on the way down – it can be scary ?? but so worthwhile!

Overcoming Impostor Syndrome is a journey that so many of us have been on and are still on, so you're not alone.
??
As Dr Valerie Young said – “If you want to stop feeling like an Impostor you have to stop thinking like an Impostor”.
She also said you need to – “Practice reframing the negative thoughts to positive ones, and over time you begin to believe your new thoughts. It’s much better to have an Impostor moment than an Impostor life!”
If you need someone to walk with you on the journey through my Top 10 Tips and to start reframing those thoughts, then just drop me a line. Join me next week to find out more about what doing nothing might cost you and your organisation.
