Recent media coverage, views expressed from business leaders, indicate Uncertainty is here to stay. I wonder has it ever been any different?
No matter what period of time you examine, whether past, present or future, a degree of uncertainty pervades all decision making processes, whether through external shocks, internal issues, or a lack of belief or confidence in the business, more often than not provoked through a lack of, or a delayed response to change in the political, economic or social climate.
There is considerable talk of using technology to model consumer behaviour, but I wonder can human behaviour ever be restricted to a particular model or another given the unpredictable nature of human response at times.
Further, is it possible to predict (with or without technology) how governments may behave whether responsibly or irresponsibly towards issues, which emerge either at home or in other parts of the world? Given our economic and to a degree a de facto political interdependency, further complicated by the speed at which information is exchanged through social media, is it reasonable to assume there will be any other climate that will differ from the uncertainty which is thereby created, since clarity and stability appear to be the ever elusive goals.
So then, how do you deal with uncertainty?
How do Companies, Leaders, or public Entities plan, manage, or navigate choppy waters?
Do we deploy tactics and training methodologies used in sports or do we delay, sit on the fence and wait?
Shall we wait for Godot?
Maybe he will never arrive.
