How do you manage a defensive employee who is very skillful but doesn't welcome negative feedback, even when ?
It's often said that #attitude is better than #ability and I've found this to be very true so many times, not only as an employer but also in family, social and ministry settings.
I have worked with junior staff with very basic understanding and mastery, but whom demonstrated a keen interest and willingness to learn. They quickly grew and were able to deliver satisfactorily even though over a long period of time.
But I also noticed that most skillful professionals are very proud, generally unreceptive to negative feedback about their work. Because of their "claimed" expertise, they don't think someone can teach them anything any longer and often take critic personal.

1 年When I started out as a translator, this is the aspect I struggled with the most! I was so repulsive to feedback and would stand against anyone who did(worse if it was not in polite manner) Over the years, I've learnt humility is the watch word and critic as you rightly plays a part in the growth process. I'm so happy I learnt that on time...
