Although designed for your own personal evolution and benefit, spiritual awakenings are usually the most difficult and painful processes that you can go through.
In the beginning it will feel as if your life has stopped working and no matter what you try to do is impossible to get ‘back on track.’ This is because your life is being disassembled so that it can be rebuilt in the image of your higher purpose.
Most people will naturally rebel as the ‘small-self’ attempts to ‘fix’ the problem and keep the status quo by assuring that your life moves in a familiar direction.
However, it soon becomes clear that it’s not going to work. No matter what you try to do, no matter how hard you try to push, it simply will not course correct back to the known direction.
This is because you’ve entered into your spiritual awakening period where you must go through your own dark night of the soul in order to be reborn anew.
5 Common Signs That You’ve Entered Your Spiritual Awakening
#1 The Unsolvable Problem
The first sign is usually the catalyst that jumps off your spiritual awakening. This is when you encounter a problem that appears to resist all efforts at correction. In the beginning it doesn’t appear to warrant any extra attention as you attempt to utilize the normal methods to correct the problem.
However, what becomes apparent is the fact that this problem is still there. At this phase it becomes alarming as you may either begin to panic or come to the realization that underneath it lies an even greater problem. Either way, you may start to become alarmed as, even though you are directing more and more energy at it, it persists in resisting all your attempts.
The problem can come in the form of either a career/monetary crisis or a health crisis or both. It can take any form really, but the afore mentioned are the most common because of the fact that the ego is most closely identified with either your career or your physical body.
Another way of looking at it is, in order to disassemble the small-self, the things that define you the most may have to be temporarily taken away from you.
This will generally persist until you have the required mental/emotional breakdown that symbolizes a crack in the egoic shell. You have now entered a period of egoic diminishment, which is a very painful process of the dying off of the small-self.
This will persist until you’ve allowed yourself to delve into the underlying suppressed emotions that are generating it. All spiritual awakenings necessitate taking the deep dive into the shadow self and fully allowing yourself to feel the underlying emotional tethering that has generated this awakening.
#2 People Exiting Your Life
The next phase of the journey, not necessarily in linear order, is watching people who you may have a strong attachment to spontaneously exit your life. Friendships, close relationships, your intimate partnership, and even family members could be on the list of those who may exit. It’s not necessarily that it must happen, it’s that those who no longer serve your highest good will begin to leave (some may return later as a more evolved reflection of you).
At first you may fight to keep your relationships going, not realizing that they no longer serve your highest good. However, at some point, you’ll begin to see that you no longer have as much in common as you once thought. In extreme cases, you may wake up to the realization that you were in a partnership/relationship with no real connection.
This can be an extremely painful part of the process for a great many people. Nobody wants to feel isolated and alone, and yet it is a must for those of you who are going through your awakening process. This is by design as you enter the period of truly facing yourself and delving into the deep work. To truly face the shadow, one must become isolated to the point where this can be facilitated. To continue to be surrounded by those who either do not support you or, on the other hand, overly comfort you, is to delay progress.
#3 Life Situation No Longer Working
Although similar to the first sign, this is when your life itself begins to unravel before your eyes. Whereas your spiritual awakening was kicked-off by a single, resilient problem that avoided all attempts at correction, this is when your entire life additionally starts to come into question.
It could come as an inner knowing that your career path no longer serves you. Or it could come as the extremely unpleasant disintegration of your life which would happen, once again, despite all efforts to the contrary.
If this process has begun to unfold, then it is being orchestrated by your own higher self, or higher level of intelligence. This also simultaneously means there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. The more invested you are in the status quo of your life then the scarier this part of the process will be.
Truly, however, no one comes out of this process completely unscathed. It is designed to disassemble the small-self, or the ego-identified personality. It’s a personal attack that is completely impersonal. In other words, it is happening for you not to you.
The way through this is to attempt to surrender and feel as best you can. The quicker you allow the deeply held suppressed emotions to surface for expression, the quicker this process can go. The more you attempt to fight it, however, the longer it can get drawn out.

It’s easy to say ‘surrender’ when it seems as if your very life is at stake. However, the only way through is through, and the quicker you do, the easier the entire process will be.
#4 Waking Up the Way the World Truly Is
The next step in the process is becoming aware of the way the world truly is. This entails understanding the levels of global corruption and the darker energies controlling and manipulating behind it all.
The key to this level of waking up is that you must have undergone a certain amount of egoic diminishment to be able to truly perceive higher levels of truth. Those who are heavily over-mentalized will have the most difficulty in being able to perceive these truths as well as the most difficulty in becoming spiritually awakened. One must be returned, in part, to an almost child-like innocence in order to be able to perceive truth.
However, upon this return, truth becomes virtually self-evident and can no longer hide from you. At this phase of your awakening you no longer need a link or a study in order to know truth. In fact, it becomes so obvious to you that, in the beginning, you’re unable to understand how others cannot see this.
However, until they, others, have undergone the necessary egoic-diminishment, and have died to the small-self, they will not be able to see the ‘now obvious’ truth which you are able to clearly discern.
Your job isn’t to convince anyone of anything, but rather to begin to adjust yourself, your life, and your goals accordingly.
Additionally, your goal is not to get swept into this phase of the journey, but rather to acknowledge that you know, and then continue with your inner work.
#5 Emotional Purging
This brings us to the single most important aspect of the journey, which is moving from the mind to the heart. You do this by starting to allow yourself to feel again. I say ‘again,’ because most people have lost the ability to feel deeply and even become subconsciously fearful of their own shadow-self.
This is by design as we’ve been led to pedestalize over-mentalization to the detriment of our ability to be able to feel.
True healing and actualization can only come from integrating the small-self, or the ego-personality. And this can only happen when you start to allow yourself to feel deeply into your unhealed emotional self.
At first this process can feel very daunting to say the least.
What’s in there? What will I find? Will it overwhelm me? How long do I have to do this for?
The answer is that the only way through is through. This means that it’s best to simply get started with the process as quickly as you can. The sooner you start, the sooner you can break through to the other side.
This means that you’ll have to allow yourself to feel deeply. In turn, this means that you will need to allow the body to express itself. It also simultaneously means that you’ll need to suspend judgment and move into a space of allowing. Allow yourself to feel, allow the body to cry, allow the body to express itself.
You’ll have to move past the built-in judgment that we’ve been indoctrinated with that to express yourself emotionally is a sign of weakness. This does not mean emotionally expressing or venting to another person. It means allowing your body to express itself in the quiet of your own home, in your own time.
It also means not making anyone else responsible for your own emotional turmoil. It means that you need to take it on yourself, process it yourself, and integrate it yourself.
But you can do this, you were meant to get through this. You are strong enough to do this.
On the other side of this is a life beyond imagination. On the other side of this is inner peace, stillness, and a life of ease. But one must be ready to face oneself in order to get there.
