This is what really makes me sweat
About 45 seconds after I start to workout, a talktrack starts in my mind:
Why don’t you stop working out, Michael?
Is that knee/elbow/finger giving you trouble? It’s OK to stop, you know.
You’re already pretty fit. Why don’t you take it easy today?
Is this routine even any good? Just stop and come back tomorrow.
It turns out that I work out not only to build a little bit of muscle and a certain amount of cardio fitness. What I’m really working out is how not to quit. I’m learning how to keep going when things get hard.
I'm curious, how do you build the capacity to keep going through the hard stuff?
What do you notice about the stories you tell yourself about giving in and giving up?
Would you take a moment to subscribe to my YouTube channel?
There you will find talks on personal development and leadership coaching, a variety of impactful interviews including Two Pages with MBS episodes, as well as my personal tools and stories that will help you be a force for change.

1 年I'm a bit late to this, but I've been trying to cultivate the idea of: "This is what hard feels like" And I remind myself that by pushing through a bit more, I'll have even less competition. Because many people give up when it gets hard. Just a little more and the momentum builds.

2 年A cold shower every morning, it helps me practice staying present when my inner voice is telling me to distract and flee from unpleasant feelings. It helps with my ADHD. The “whiny” voice is louder on the days I am feeling emotionally suboptimal, and the exercise helps me cut through this voice of avoidance and connect to my inner strength and resolve. Thank you ?? Michael. Love this topic. "how not to quit" is a unique skill. No matter what you do to train it, it impacts positively other parts of your life.? What do I do to keep going when it's hard? I’ve learned to innovate inside my routines. We often associate innovations only with significant changes. I see it differently; innovation is also doing the same things in a slightly different way. This concept helps me to keep going with my consistency when it becomes more challenging.
