Ok…here goes *deep breath aaaaand exhale*… for companies....working with multiple recruitment agencies is HARMING your hiring process. For candidates, you are coming off as desperate and dishonest when trying to have more than one recruiter submit you for the same job....do you not think we will find out?
How do you know which recruiter to use if you have been contacted by multiple recruiters. First be proactive and don't be rushed. Do not be tricked into emailing that recruiter your resume while you are on the phone or as soon as you hang up. The job is not going to be filled in the next hour if you do not send them your resume - trust me. Especially if this company is using multiple recruiters - this means they are being flooded with resumes and chances are they aren't going to even look at yours today, or tomorrow.
Second, do some research on the recruiter. Read the recommendations on the bottom of their linkedIn page, do they have any? Do they have a business website? Do they specialize in this industry? Will they tell you the name of the company? Do they seem like they have recruited for this company before? Are they a jr recruiter that does not really understand the job but they were asked to go find talent for the role by a Sr. Recruiter? This is your first step. If you do not do this and instead just immediately email them your resume, BIG MISTAKE - Now they own you for a year with that company.
If you try to apply for another role with a much better recruiter 6 months later, the first recruiter that you let send in your resume gets the credit for you getting hired. Most recruiters have a contract with companies that give them credit for 12 months if the candidate they submitted gets hired for any role within the company for the next year.
Seriously, if you are contacted by 5 recruiters, from different firms, for the same position, don’t hide that. You are only doing yourself a disservice. For example, let’s say you talk to two recruiters (Julie and Jesse) about the same position. Julie called first and you told her it was okay to submit you. Then Jesse calls you the next day, offering you a little more money for the same position, much more information, knows the company and has place several candidates with them. Overall Jesse is just much more informed. So you also tell Jesse to submit you. You may be thinking that it will double your chances if two agencies are fighting for you. If you keep them both in the dark, they don’t have the opportunity to warn you about the company’s policy about “duplicate submittals.†Everyone of my clients will reject you immediately from the second recruiter if you get submitted twice. They also wonder why you would let two different recruiters do the work to try to get you in the door? Plan backfired, you may be automatically rejected. Keep it 100%.

Here is what you need to know first. A company can only accept the candidate from one recruiter. The recruiter submits your resume with his/her name attached to it. This is because they want to take credit if you are hired. If the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th one try submitting it it won’t matter.
I am seeing many recruiters blindly send out candidates resumes to my clients so that in the event a candidate does get hired, they can go back to them and say "hey! I submitted them, now pay me" I am constantly being told that "I didn't give the recruiter permission to submit my resume, but I did email it to them" or "The recruiter wouldn't tell me the name of the company so I didn't know they were submitting me to them for this role, can't I ask to have you represent me instead?" the answer is NO
Also you should wonder why so many recruiters are working on the same role - that would be my first concern as a candidate right? Something seems off? Is the role impossible to fill? Is the company desperate? I'd have many questions if multiple recruiters are asked to supply candidates to HR for just one opening.
Do not- I repeat DO NOT EMAIL A RECRUITER YOUR RESUME IF THEY NOT TELL YOU THE NAME OF THE COMPANY. WHAT ARE THEY HIDING? IF THEY DO TELL YOU THE NAME OF THE COMPANY, CALL ME AND ASK IF I AM RECRUITING FOR THAT COMPANY. IF I AM - I WILL SUBMIT YOU, TRUST ME AS THE AESTHETIC RECRUITER.

1 å¹´From what I've seen, General Dynamics is working with a lot of staffing companies to fill their engineering positions. It's a lot to keep track of.

1 å¹´6 recruiters have gotten in touch for the same gig just since this past Friday!! I mean, I understand that our regional utility is hiring FIVE Instructional designers for an on-site assignment and the pool is somewhat limited, but gimme a break!! Are they putting their recruiting out for bid?? Thanks for the helpful piece, #Heidi-theaestheticrecruiter
