There’s a reason why you started your business.
You had an idea – a vision – of what you wanted it to look like.
But does it really look that way now? Or has it turned into a nightmare that’s consuming every minute of your life? Or something in between?
It could be that somewhere along the way, you deviated from the vision that you’ve initially set for yourself.
The good news is, it’s never too late to take a step back and fix things. Here’s what you should do:
First, start by redefining the idea of your business.
Assess your current situation and then envision how it looks like in an ideal scenario. Include your personal life in that vision. Are you still operating it full-time, with you coming to the office every day? Or maybe you’re able to operate everything remotely?
Then, it’s time to find out what’s broken.
Why is the reality so different from what you’ve envisioned?
Take a good look at your business and get really honest. Look for issues piece by piece. Of course, it’s not enough to look at your business and find all the things that you should fix. Once you identify them, you need to understand what you need to fix first.
Once you set your priorities, focus on the top three to five items first. You’ll find that the other things often tend to resolve themselves when you fix the top priority.
And once you know what you want to change and why, it’s time to establish new behaviors.
It’s clear that things aren’t working the way they are now. But just deciding to restructure your business won’t take it to where you want it to be.
To move it forward, you'll need to make some changes in your own behavior.
Do them with purpose and your goals in mind. Be mindful, especially with any behaviors affected by the whole pandemic situation. Has the epidemic changed you in any way?
Doing this is the first step to helping the whole organization evolve. When you change your behaviors, others will soon follow.
Naturally, there’s a lot more you can do to create the business you’ve always dreamed about. But the above is a solid start.
