How do you feel? Angry, frustrated, hurt, sad, depressed?
Does it feel like you've been hit in the face?
Age should be an asset, one that increases your potential value to employers. You have better judgement, learned from your mistakes, have more experience than younger candidates, and can do more for your employer. So why would an employer choose younger candidates who can't do as much as you?
Often there's a reason in the perception you give employers through your resume and interviews, and you probably don't even realize that you're doing this ... but it's tanking your job opportunities.
Also, you're competing against so many other qualified candidates today, because you face job shortages, not candidate shortages. The real story of 2022's job market is that 50%-65% (depending on the study) of currently employed workers are expected to change jobs this year. Add in the unemployed, and you've got 90M+ job seekers competing for 11M jobs, or almost 10 job seekers for each job.
The worker shortages you hear about aren't for the jobs you're seeking, but affect: restaurant/bar, low wage hourly, entry level, front line manufacturing, truck drivers, doctors and nurses.
