How Do You Feel about NOT Hiring Professional Copywriters to Write Copy for You?

Are you a small business owner?

Do you have limited resources and thus, it would rather make more sense for you to focus on what matters most, for example, making another call to your customer and closing another sale?

When it comes to writing your own copy for your products and services, some business owners I approached said that they'd rather do it themselves.

And .. this caught me by surprise.

I know writing a quality copy is hard work and requires years of training.




Schools taught you and me how to write a composition by focusing on using correct grammar and ensuring the output is typo-free. But copywriting is different and in fact, I would submit that writing a copy is different from writing a composition in school. Let's leave this argument for another day.

Objection against Hiring Professional Copywriters

Let's hear these common objections:

"I am just a small business owner and have a tight budget."

"How much does it cost me to hire a professional copywriter? It must be expensive."

"What's my likely Return on Investment ("ROI") if I were to hire a professional copywriter?"

Is any of the above your objections too?

Let's see how we can obliterate these objections:

Objection: "I am just a small business owner and have a tight budget."

Response: "Every time when you need to grow your company, you have to invest in something that is outside of your budget. So, the question is "How am I going to start if it's outside my budget?" "What are you willing to commit further so that you begin to see your business grow?"

Objection: "How much does it cost me to hire a professional copywriter? It must be expensive."

Response: "This is how your brain is wired when you see the item as a cost. You throw the money out of your pocket and you don't expect anything back. How about seeing this as an expense? An expense is cash outflow with a view to generating income (which is cash inflow)."

Objection: "What's my likely Return on Investment ("ROI") if I were to hire a professional copywriter?"

Response: "Unfortunately, there is no guarantee of ROI. I don't think no one can guarantee it anyway. In fact, this is what I said to my clients - if any professional copywriter makes such an ROI guarantee, run and don't walk away. You can control the process and the working relationship but you can't control the outcome. But would you take a leap of faith to trust a professional copywriter who knows how to write copies for your target customer and can generate potential returns for your business?"

What Can Professional Copywriters Do for Your Business?

Reason 1 - It's Saving You Tons of Research Time

Professional copywriters would probably share with you that when it comes to writing a solid copy, 80% of the time is researching and 20% of the time is the actual writing.

You may be familiar with your products and services. But you should stop writing your own copy because copywriters offer a different perspective than those who are more involved with content creation at home (i.e. you!).

Reason 2 - It's Difficult to Get the Tone Right for Your Copy

Writing a copy is not the same as writing a composition. It is crucial to get the tone of your copy right.

This requires understanding your target market.

Professional copywriters have years of experience and know what works best for your business. They don’t simply look at data and copywriting tactics, but also how copy is successful in their industry.

This means that you won't have to waste time researching copy ideas and testing them out yourself!

At this point, I must also highlight an emerging trend - the use of Copywriting Artificial Intelligence ("AI") tool to perform such a task. Quite frankly, Copywriting AI tools are becoming more sophisticated as they learn from what works on existing sites. It means other than hiring professional copywriters, pretty soon you could also have a personal assistant creating all of your blog post content for you! All you need is to get professional copywriters to edit the content to meet your requirements.

Reason 3: You Don't Have the Expertise to Produce Quality Copy

Like I said above, schools don't teach us how to write copy. So, I don't expect employees who come from the traditional education system to be able to write copies.

The copywriters I hired are either school drop-outs or have gone through specialized copywriting training. You can say that it's a specialized education to some extent. In fact, I share with some younger people that there are two skills they must acquire - sales & closing skills and copywriting skills.

Professional copywriters know how to write compelling copy that converts. They have the skills necessary for creating eye-catching headlines, short and long-form content pieces as well as graphics and whiteboard videos.
