How do you end your conversation?

There are many occasions we converse with others. We speak to our parents, friends, colleagues, Seniors, teams, group of students etc.
What happens here? I usually observe that most of us prepare good content, excellent power point slides and what not. We use Laser pen to point at our slides. All these are essential. What next?
We start the speech with following intentions - my speech should be awesome, want to ensure I will spend decent long time with the crowd, should be impactful, should end up getting decent applauds etc. Please note these expectations differ from one person to another :-). What next?
In my opinion, if we are generally good speakers, our start of the conversation is going to be wonderful, but how are we ending the conversation. Ending the speech is extremely crucial I feel. End should create more energy than start. Its an art. One should have strong choice of words and sentences while your talk comes to an end. These words/sentences should be able to rewind the entire speech into the audience mind - so that, they recollect the main points, become emotional, become excited and showcase a actionable behaviour.
Example: If I speak to my team about, strategies to achieve our organisation target, I should end my talk by pin pointing few most important pointers, making few of my team members to summarise the topic, asking the team if they are with me full fledged to achieve this goal, finally snack the session to bring oneness and readiness to action.
In other words, when you end the speech it should inspire enthusiasm, rigour, passion, anger, sympathy etc. Information is not enough. Ideas are not enough. They will instigate thinking in us. Hence your speech should end with attitudes like - wanting to act on something right now OR want to change something for good OR wanting to move in a new direction because the older execution did not work OR to stop something immediately which was supposed to be stopped long back.
I felt, I should express this because most of us end up talking to either a individual or a crowd on a daily basis. The way you end your speech will certainly be remembered and would end up inspiring many instantly.
That's it for now. Have a good week end!

8 年Thanks for penning this. Never really focussed on that though always planned to end on a high while giving formal talks, however, the day-to-day team meetings are equally if not more important and I will make an effort to be conscious about the endings.
