“The restlessness and the longing, like the longing that is in the whistle of a faraway train. Except that the longing isn't really in the whistle—it is in you.” ― Meindert DeJong. A soul (mind will personality emotions) is when we have not yet accepted the Lords unexplainable peace that passes all understanding. His peace is not of this world. It completes us, leads us, edifies us. It allows us to see how God sees. A peace that allows us to learn with purpose. That peace gives us a foundation. The Bible say the only labour we should be doing is labouring to enter His rest. A restless soul continue to search for completeness and a peace in places that cannot give it. The best part about Jesus is that He is always waiting for everyone to receive this peace!
First of all, your soul isn’t lost or restless, but you are! You are your soul. Are you lost or restless? My guess is yes, since you have already asked this question. So the next questions you need to answer is why do you feel you are lost or restless? Write down your answers. It would be helpful for me to know your age. Younger people are quite often lost and restless…. and mainly because they haven’t been “around” long enough to really know themselves. If you don’t know what your purpose is, in this life, you may feel lost. If you are not happy about your life, at this moment, you may be restless. Don’t feel alone. Many people feel lost and restless.
Soul is god, the sole God, the unmanifested, eternal, unchanging and so the root of our being, so has nothing to do with your subjective experiencing... Spirit on the other hand is manifestation, finite, and evolves as we gain experience in our seeming separation.. Into form. While spirit, is the underlying energetic basis of our worldly exploration, which is to say the conduit between the unmanifested and materiality or the mind/body mechanism. Spiritual energy can be depleted which is why some need sleep, while those who transcend the body/mind, is less so.
The restlessness you experience, is because of the seeking of worldly experience to satisfy the infinite longing for reunification, back with our original being.. One with God. But this is futile and why many materialist, atheists, religious and devout alike experience the same feeling as you. The only thing that can help to satisfy the infinite longing, is something that is also infinite, enter true spiritual practices. Not trite ceremony and rites, accumulations or pleasures, but true inward dwelling attention on that, that is our eternal self.

Therefore, learn to let go of the mind through meditation, readjust your attention to eternal or divine truth and cease giving your awareness to negativity and ideas that bring you out of alignment with our higher nature, and surly as you read this, the calm and peace will become commonplace. As pure spirit infinite in all perfections, God is subject to nothing. He is not subject to emotions and passions in the way human beings are. He is pure goodness, pure benevolence, who desires the happiness of all beings he has created.
God did not need the human race. He is not dependent upon our redemption or well-being for his own happiness. Hell can have no sanction over heaven. Strangely, however, in the Incarnation God the Son became one of us, vulnerable and experiencing human emotion. He wept over Jerusalem’s obstinacy and grew frustrated over his apostles’ slowness to understand. So where does that leave us in answering the question? God is never restless because everything, past, present and future, is simultaneous to him in eternity.
Exercise has calmed a savage beast like me. I saw a doctor and got clearance to start exercising. I started exercising a few minutes a day and ended up running two hours a day, I fell and broke my arm. I still exercise with a cane and occasionally a walker. I’ve learned how to meditate. I’ve fallen in love with beautiful music. We are all sent here with a specific purpose or mission to fulfill in life. We were given this before we came. The deeper spiritual part of you is trying to get you where you need to go, but if you are not moving in the right direction, this will produce a deep sense of restlessness and feeling of something missing in your life, that there still is something you must do but not knowing what this is.
You can try to avoid this feeling, but unless you start moving in the right direction, this feeling will not go away. There are ways and preparations that can help you with this. One of them being a powerful spiritual preparation called "Steps to Knowledge". This preparation will reconnect your personal mind with the deeper spiritual mind within you that holds the memories of who you really are, where you came from, who sent you here and what you are meant to accomplish in this life. Cheers!
