When we say best version of yourself all it means is that what would you look like as a better person. I don’t know if there is such thing as “the best version of myself”, or it’s just a virtual projection of one’s desire to be better in relation with his actual self, but I like the concept. It’s a good concept to work upon. What you need to make sure when you take such concepts into your life is that you remember to define what the best version of yourself is.
However, you can only do that from your current reference point in life. What I’m saying is that it might be only an illusion, but it can help you evolve, by propelling you towards self-development ideals that can only be reached by taking initiative in this regard. So, you sit down, close your eyes and you’re like: “What would the best version of myself be like?”
But then, you imagine that very vividly and write it down, so that you can bring it up later, when you’re getting closer to who you want to become. This process helps you to compartmentalize the abstract ideal into specific areas you can work on, like certain skills, attitudes, principles, goals and so on. When you have taken out those different attributes, you can now put them into your life. This is the point of execution where many people fail. They just write things down, without managing to internalise them.
I also guess that for some people this approach might sound very structured, so I’ll take myself as an example. I want to achieve a lot in life, and because of that, I have to work in a very structured way, which leads to taking modules, for example: learning to become a leader, speed reading, you name it, whatever interests you. The problem is that at first you cannot focus on too many things.
The structure and discipline help you especially when circumstantial emotions stop you from doing something that has to be done. If it has been already planned, you are more motivated to accomplish it, no matter how you feel at the moment. Surrounding yourself with people who are better than you in those regards where you need to evolve is already a well-known strategy, but we often fail in looking out for those people.
How do you bring clever people into your life? It is a very challenging thing to do. You have to seek them out. I started my adventure two years ago, when I wrote to a guy on Quora. Since then I have started two businesses, and now I’m travelling the world. So you have to take that action and reach out to somebody.
Actually the best version of myself is a person who doesn’t have a best version of himself, a person who doesn’t care about this concept. But, as I am now, I do care about this. In the future, I will be focusing on going towards meditation retreats, and other stuff that can kill your ego in order to get rid of concepts like this. Until then, I actually think that it’s healthy to have ambitions like this, that can propel you towards until you get to the point where you can get rid of them.
Here are some simple things to do. You are able to earn more money per hour doing what you love, and have more time in your hands to do whatever you like, also have more freedom to choose whatever you want to do and have the independence to live the life of your dreams, your passion & your interest, of course by having the capacity to be completely and totally in-charge of the small & big components in your life.
Some tips how to go about it. First and foremost, get out of the comfort zone, always take calculated risks, be smart & sharper than others around, meditate regularly especially before taking an important decision, take frequent power naps before doing an important job, work hard on yourself more than on your job and constantly sharpen your saw by educating your mind, take self development seriously and surround yourself with people better than you, remove and block & Delete all toxic people, useless activities, habits from your life and be ready to make the super tough choices - including breaking up with your loved one who pull you down and get yourself a world-class mentor to coach you better.
