How do we survive this?

THE 21st century has been no doubt the era that human beings have experienced relative universal peace. The only exception being the continued wars in the middle east and a few spontaneous and sporadic upsets in some countries. In his inaugural address on April 27th, 1961 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, New York, the late President John F. Kennedy as he then was, articulated that the world is faced with a struggle against the 4 common enemies of mankind 1. tyranny 2. poverty 3. disease, and 4.war itself.  Presently, we are faced with a common enemy that threatens to decimate and obliterate life as we ordinarily know it. COVID 19! Imagine we cannot hug or even shake hands with our family members or friends!! Going out on a coffee date is now listed amongst the 1001 ways to die. Unbelievable!

The purpose of this article was/is to address how we can survive in these hard and trying times and come out stronger together. My learned friends in the legal profession have jotted wonderful pieces on the legal effects of this pandemic from a human rights and business perspective. My peers, the economists, and financial planners have also advised us on the fiscal measures that we can take both at a micro and macro level to avoid a recession. Our friends in the technological sector have not been left behind as they are now busier fixing our systems to enable us to realize the 'work from home' campaign and keep us virtually connected. The energy sector is also being called upon to reduce the price of energy paid by consumers owing to a collapse in world oil prices. Our friends in the medical profession are our battle-hardened soldiers taking on this monster at the forefront.

What are you doing? Watching the news and fearmongering? How do we attain social justice for the most vulnerable?

Conclusion

I realized that I do not have the proper answers to what we should do to survive in this situation. In this regard, I am calling on you the reader of this article to share your advice and or views, and what you are doing to ensure we survive and live to tell our story another day. I will collate the views and share this as a full article!

For now, feel free to give your views in the comments section below!!!! Aluta Continua!!

I think what every individual and company can do is to be financially lean duting this time by cutting down on any unnecessary/discretionary cash outflows. The rationale being twofold: 1. You create a cash buffer for yourself to survive for a longer timeframe. After all, you can't help other if you are helpless yourself. 2. You create a cash pool, which you would otherwise not have, from which you can assist those in financial need at the appropriate moment e.g. employees, family, friends, and others. Needless to say, we should follow the health directives to curb the spread of the virus.

Is there anything much i can say?..''..to the world you may be one person, but to one person you may mean the world. Spare a thought in action to your neighbour and the rest will fall into place.
