HOW DO WE MARKET EDUCATION?

There's no doubt that over the past decade the commercialisation of Education is rampant with newer institutions investing heavily on marketing to ensure that enrollment is always at its highest.?

?

What do they use as marketing material?

Initially new schools use their easily accessible locality, top of the line infrastructure and well qualified teaching staff. But sooner or later we see all the schools switching to a method of marketing which at the very least has become a little unsavoury, advertisement campaigns with their top ranking students. Instead of promoting their infrastructure and staff quality, institutions promote their students who have achieved top ranks in the school, district, state and country in various competitive and non-competitive exams.?

At the beginning when an institution's student bagged an All India Rank it does seem harmless for them to publicise their achievements, but the problem starts when this becomes their only objective. This pushes institutions to start placing pressure on students to get ranks in their examinations just so that they can be used as marketing material, thus skewing the purpose of the educational institution from its very core.

There is a fine difference between publicising and marketing which we need to realise and actively suppress. What are some of the instances where you've seen marketing too far? Do let us know!
