How Do We Know What To Pay An Influencer?

At a recent conference I attended, someone in the audience asked a YouTube influencer on-stage how much she expects to get paid for a sponsored video. This person had spent years in the world of celebrity endorsements but had little history in the world of social influencers. How could she possible know what a YouTube video was worth?

This type of question illustrates how differently marketers need to think about influencer pricing. In the world of celebrity, the prices are very qualitative. This actor is on a prime time sitcom so an endorsement is worth... (fill in a random number here)! But on social media, we're overwhelmed with data. Why not make good use of it and set some rational standards?
