How do we go from a THANKFUL THURSDAY to a BLACK FRIDAY overnight?

Today is BLACK FRIDAY... WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY CALL IT BLACK FRIDAY?!?!

Weren't we all just sitting around the table yesterday feeling all the gratitude and love of friends and family - and now today people are elbowing each other out of the way to get the newest giget, gaget that their sweet babies have to have... People in America have literally camped out all night, in the freezing cold to get a chance at buying something that they in all honesty possibly can't even afford to get. What is wrong with this picture?

The 4th Thursday of every November is Thanksgiving Holiday in the United States of America. A day that we set aside to give thanks for our many blessings, set aside our differences and break bread with others in peace. Well... at least I'd like to believe that this was the original thought behind the holiday.

It's not just the food that makes the Thanksgiving memories my favorite of the holidays - it's the fact that Thanksgiving is the day that everyone gets together and growing up it was the day that everyone gathered at our house. In most families it seems like during Christmas the focus is on presents and other distractions.... but Thanksgiving is about being with those you love, enjoy, tolerate or are working on being kind to. ;) and for that we are thankful.

So how do we go from this overwhelming feeling of gratitude, thanks and love.... to the 4th Friday of November and the CHAOS OF WHAT WE KNOW TO BE BLACK FRIDAY?

Here is how BLACK FRIDAY actually got it's name.

I guess if anything good has come out of COVID - the transition away from chaotic crowds, traffic jams and mobs fighting over toys could actually be one of them. Since this seems to actually be the case, I wonder if we could change the name back to something else... What about... Full Friday after all the food we ate on Thursday, or Fun Friday because all the kids hang out together, or even Fantastic Friday... because well - most of us are still off of work?

In truth, BLACK FRIDAY has turned into an entire month of marketing... I don't know about you but I've been getting BLACK FRIDAY marketing fliers, ads, emails and promotional discounts in the mail since the day after Halloween. It turns out that much like every other holiday, Americans have commericialized and twisted another day into a reason for more sales and ways to make a profit.

I'm going on the record to say that this is something I choose not to support. Call me crazy for missing an opprtunity to make money or a rebel for bucking the system, but I don't like to be told HOW I should celebrate anything! This includes being told how and when to recognize my relationship (Valentines Day) my Irish roots (St Patrick's Day), my faith (Easter, Christmas, etc) or my love of this country (July 4th... ok, I take that one back... I love fireworks!) But you won't see any BLACK FRIDAY DEALS on my page.

If you want a great deal from me - schedule a free call, hire me to coach you and pay in full up front to get a big discount!!! Then we can get to work changing your future together! That's the best deal I know of. Otherwise, I wish you a very Happy Full, Fantastic and Fun Friday filled with all of your favorite people.
