How do WE Get a SHOT!

I am sure some of you can relate with this article. Anyone who just wants an opportunity in anything and feels like an Underdog. If you can relate, God bless because I truly understand. It is NOT easy to 'Get a Shot' with whatever it is you are trying to accomplish especially at the middle stage of your life.

To give all some background on what I have done in my life up to now for some perspective and see how it relates to others here it is...

I had a business as an athletic teenager doing landscaping and lawn care with my brother as well as other side hustles of all kinds including sales, bartending, painting and whatever else I needed to do to get the $ until I got through college. I graduated college and was a school teacher and coach right away. After a year, I left teaching for different reasons and moved to Florida to find my career path and did mortgages for a little bit. I came back to Pennsylvania 6 months later and started in the used car business with my father for 17 years. We sold that and my father retired in 2017. I did some consulting work for a little bit, and then went back into the car business for myself for 5 years and had 2 small dealerships before COVD19 finally took me out last fall. All along, I have found ways to do other things as well: network marketing, insurance sales, real estate, baseball player coaching and recruiting, some sports handicapping sales and whatever else came my way. Now, I am doing insurance sales at my brother's agency in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I like doing it, enjoy being with my brother and helping his business grow even with inflation now hitting the insurance industry pretty hard too. He is a hard worker and family man and I am glad he has given me a chance to work here for now. However, I do not love doing it, and that is okay. I don't think most people in life do what they truly love. I mean, I don't think most of us know what we truly love, or are able to do what we truly love regardless. Some people find the IT, the thing they truly love and are able to do it for their whole life. Some NEVER find it. I get it. I am sure many of you feel the same way as well. I always thought my true love was something sports related, but I am not so sure. I think it wasn't in the cards in this lifetime of mine.

My whole point of writing this article is as an underdog searching for an opportunity that makes sense for me, I have done many things I needed to do that weren't easy. However, how do I, or others similar to me in this situation with a family to provide for and in the middle of their life, Get a Shot in a new field. I wanted my property and casualty license, so I studied years ago and got it. I needed my life insurance license recently, so I studied earlier this year and got it. I wanted to get my real estate license 2 years ago, and I took the test and I got it. I have 3 licenses that many people wish they could get. I have multiple experiences with business, life and more plus a bachelors degree in Education. But the question among all of this is yet again... how does someone like me, who has mostly been an entrepreneur most of his life Get a Shot at something new? That is the million dollar question many of you in your 30s, 40s or 50s are also dealing with it. I have been looking into Cyber Security sales now to get involved with. I talked to a gentleman who has had over 20+ years of success as a consultant in Cyber Security and he thinks I would do well in the sales arena of it all. Everything I see on job platforms, you need experience for and most of what I see out there is not for Sales, it is as an analyst, engineer or architect etc. in Cyber Security. So, I am not sure HOW to get a Shot in this new arena. Am I stuck in ONLY doing Cyber Security for what I hope will be my final career path until retirement? No, I am not. I am leaning towards that right now and open minded to other opportunities. And no, I do not want after many years of it all, anything with JUST commission ONLY (for those who will reach out to me then). How do we say this exactly with commission ONLY: I have been there, done that and I say NEXT when commission ONLY is brought up! :)

Of all this I have written just now, I will tell you this much for sure. Whoever gives me an opportunity that makes sense for ME and for the company as well, you will get someone who will be hard working, able to learn, keep it real, and if guided properly will be a leader and a well-rounded experienced person in life that will help you get whatever you need done! Maybe I am putting a stretch into all this by writing this article, but I know that there are many others who are out there and I want you to know, you are not alone! Keep pushing! Keep trying to figure it out. Keep grinding. Keep asking questions. Keep emailing or messaging others. Keep TRYING to figure it all out. Cause the only time we officially lose is when we stop TRYING.

What I am, and we are asking for is just to... Get a Shot! To show to whoever, that it is not always the exact DEGREE or AGE that matters as much. We too can still kick some butt(s) out there in business and in life! To still Go after it!
