How do we define great design...?

When in Italy on business in July this year, I was impressed by the beautiful architecture and design work dating back to the 1500's and beyond. These magnificent constructions embodied with history, beliefs, culture and passion, the very same qualities that drive great design and archiecture today.

The following 10 points explain what we believe at Space Logic drives great design, and how it is incorporated into the work that we do for our clients in Healthcare Storage Space, to improve efficiency, assist in the prevention and controlling of infection and most of all elevating the patient experience.

1. Good design is innovative, innovative products with innovative technology. There's no end to it, the possibilities for innovation are not by any means exhausted.
2. Good design makes the products and space useful, we have the opportunity to craft a space from scratch, providing the opportunity to make it beautiful, functional, well-considered and useful.
3. Good design is aesthetic, the aesthetic quality of a design is integral to its usefulness. Functionality without aesthetics is engineering, aesthetics without functionality is art.
4. Good design makes a product understandable, great design makes the products function self-evident.
5. Good design is unobtrusive, Space Logic Products are like tools in the design phase for the desired outcomes.
6. Good design is honest, it doesn't make the end result more innovative, powerful or valuable than it really is. No attempt to manipulate the consumer, no surprises or broken promises.
7. Good design is long lasting, the final result lasts many years, even in todays throwaway society.
8. Good design is thorough down to the last detail, care and accuracy in the design phase shows respect towards the client. Saving time and money by allowing final adjustments to be made prior to installation.
9. Good Design is environmental friendly, in the spirit of being responsible, we should create concepts that improve the world, not detract from it.
10. Good design is little design as possible, this may sound contradictory to everything you've just read, but in the digital age, in the midst of a world bursting with technology, the hardest thing to achieve is the last nine points. Simplicity isn't just good design - its also good business. Its about solving problems the most effective way possible. To some it up with the famous quote: " I would of written a shorter letter, but I did not have the time."
