Shopify recently released Metaobjects which help administrators add and store additional structured information within the Shopify platform.

This concept of creating what are essentially custom content schemes and utilising them within Shopify gives a huge amount of flexibility to the platform that wasn't previously there.

Conceptually this all sounds great, but how does it actually work? I took a quick look and recorded a walk and talk of how it all fits together to make it easy for the team at We Make Websites and thought I'd share it here:

Apologies it's 10 minutes long but there isn't really a way to condense such a feature.

  • What are Metaobjects?
  • Creating Metaobjects
  • Adding data to a Metaobject
  • Referencing Metaobjects within a product page, collection etc? (As a list or single selection)
  • Connecting Metaobjects to theme sections via theme customer (As a repeating object or single selection)
  • Referencing Metaobjects in liquid
