Habitually engaging in escapism activities like binge eating, drinking, drug use, gambling, retail therapy, scrolling, etc, exacerbate burnout because they add a heaping dose of guilt and shame onto the already burdensome frustration, anger, regret, comparisonitis, and impostor syndrome that has you feeling burnout in the first place!
When we are feeling stressed out, our “animal body” just wants to let off steam or go numb, and unfortunately neither helps to mitigate stress.
"Burn-out is a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterized by three dimensions: feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion; increased mental distance from one' s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job; and reduced professional efficacy." - World Health Organization

How can we stop those self-defeating habits of escapism like binge eating, drinking, drug use, gambling, retail therapy, scrolling, etc, and instead manage burnout effectively?
