How do men get rid of belly fat?
Jonny Stannard
Helping ambitious men supercharge their fitness, career, relationships and finances so they can live life on purpose.
A common question.
One I used to ask google, yahoo, Jeeves or whoever!
Here’s the mistake I made for years. I’ll tell you so you don’t waste as much time as I did on what I thought would help me lose belly fat!
I thought that losing belly fat was down to a couple of things…
1 - How hard I could train and how high I could get my heart rate during the session.
2 - Going low carb in an attempt to shrink the fat around my belly button…
Oh and this one… I thought doing core work and sit-ups would help me shed some timber around the waist too :-)
Now I am not saying diet and exercise aren’t important when it comes to dropping fat, they are!
But the best ways to lose the flab around the gut comes down to a few things.
First up, you need to eat fewer calories than you burn. you can do this low carb, high carb, low fat, high fat. Whatever you prefer.
In my experience guys tend to lose more fat following higher carb/ lower fat approaches.
Protein needs to be pretty high on either approach or you run the risk of losing muscle which is bad from a health and metabolism point of view.
Stress also needs to be managed. If we aren’t sleeping great, under the cosh at work, or just feel burned out, burning body fat becomes a harder process for the body.
Plus when we’re stressed out, we tend to hold more water, and our cravings are through the roof!
Regular breath work, prioritising sleep, eating less processed foods and minimising alcohol will automatically reduce the physiological stress on your body.
Training wise, 2-3 resistance workouts will do the trick every week. Supplement that with some walking or any other form of low-moderate cardio and you’ll be on to a winner.
Don’t pick workouts because every other fitness model/athlete recommends it.
Do what you enjoy doing and do it often.
Lastly, patience.
Nobody wants to hear it, but life-changing results take a bit of time.
You can do a heck of a lot in 8-12 weeks. But think bigger picture for long-term results.
You’ll look better and feel five times better mentally.
Any questions, reach out.
