How to Do Marketing in Web3: Listen to the Community

Web3 marketing is all about community.

You’re no longer targeting an audience. Forget everything you’ve learned before. Ads won’t work here. They barely do.

You need a completely different mindset.

Have you ever actually participated in Web3?

Have you minted an NFT? Were you grinding to get whitelisted for a mint?

Have you felt a sense of belonging? Did you become emotionally attached to the picture you bought?

If you haven’t experienced any of this firsthand, you need to hire people who have. Why? Because they’ve been part of the community. Because they understand how important affinity is. That’s what makes them good for the job.

Web3 marketing is about building a community, living with the community, and making it part of the life of your product or project.

If you fail at any point to make the community a part of your game, you won’t make it.

Communities can destroy everything you’ve worked hard to build if you don’t listen.

Is that a good thing? I don’t know. I don’t ask, to be honest.

I’m not the one who started this revolution.

I’m just following it.

I’ve learned to listen to the community.

One more point about marketing:

I mentioned affinity.

Work with it. People are really attached to their pictures. That’s why they use them as PFPs on social media. They represent their identity through these images.

And you can leverage that. How? Create a story. Build some lore. Dive deep into the copy and craft a whole new world for them to explore. They will love it. And they will support you.

Stories sell. I hope I don’t need to convince you of that.

Marketing has already shifted toward making the customer the hero of the story, even in the old world of Web1, and especially in Web2.

Now it’s time to embrace the next chapter: the community — a group of heroes sharing your vision and participating in the life of your product or project.
