How do I write a good subject line?

Do you know that the subject of your emails is the key to highlighting them in an inbox?

As Oscar Wilde said, there is never a second chance for a first impression: the subject is the first opportunity that we generate interest with our contacts; It is the first sentence they see, and that is why it should stand out as much as possible so that they decide to continue reading our message.

In this article we will share our secrets to achieve the best subjects:

#1 Brevity is the soul of wit

Your subject line should be simple, direct and should have between 25 and 35 characters with spaces included so that it can be read in full on any mobile device. If you exceed these numbers, try other ways to say the same thing with fewer words. See which terms are unnecessary and can be deleted without changing the meaning of the sentence. If it continues to be long, make sure that the most significant is within the first few words.

#2 Get closer to your audience.

The language you use is key and helps you to be closer to the recipients. Try to be informal and generate complicity or intrigue through your subjects ;) Use humor to capture the attention of your audience and generate a feeling of complicity. Surely that way they will have more predisposition to open your emails

#3 Focus on the here and now.

Bring your message to life by mentioning recent events or events, mentioning a social media trend or current news. This will generate an identification with your recipients since they will feel that on the other side there is someone who lives on the same page.

#4 Create intrigue, curiosity or mystery.

Ask a question in the subject that will generate intrigue or invite them to discover something that will be inside the email. Put suspense on your subjects!

#5 Do not give them false hope:

In the race to gain clicks, bold subjects are written that then fall under their own weight when the user does not find their expectations satisfied within the email. Avoid disappointment: play fair and do not betray your pact with the reader because he will feel cheated and will not open another submission of yours.

Likewise, there are no magic formulas. Although a quota of creativity will always make you stand out, the key is to try different things. As you get to know your audience you will know with greater certainty what type of subjects are those that are attractive to them.

And now ... what are you waiting to start writing irresistible topics?

Good tips Keith. Another one is to do A/B tests. Sometimes the subject line you think that is "better", does worse.
