How do I maintain productivity when my people are working remotely?

What are some of the ways you can ensure business PERFORMANCE and the PRODUCTIVITY of your PEOPLE?

Pulse Surveys

Employee pulse surveys are a tool used by workplace strategists and HR professionals to measure employee well-being. They are typically conducted quarterly or annually, and ask employees to rate their satisfaction with various aspects of their job, including their supervisors, co-workers, pay, and benefits. The results of these surveys can be used to identify problem areas within the workplace and to develop strategies for improving employee morale. Additionally, pulse surveys can be used to benchmark employee satisfaction levels against other organisations. By regularly conducting pulse surveys, businesses can ensure that they are providing a supportive and positive environment for their employees.

Training and development opportunities

By investing in employee development, businesses can provide their employees with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful. Furthermore, employees who feel invest in by their employer are more likely to be engaged and motivated to do their best work. Finally, offering training and development opportunities can also help businesses attract and retain top talent. In today’s competitive marketplace, businesses that fail to invest in employee development are at a distinct disadvantage.

Creating a positive work environment

A positive work environment is essential for boosting productivity and morale in the workplace. There are a number of factors that contribute to a positive work environment, including open communication, mutual respect, and a sense of shared purpose. When employees feel valued and respected, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated. Additionally, a positive work environment fosters creativity and innovation, as employees feel free to share new ideas. Creating a positive work environment can be a challenge, but it is essential for ensuring a productive and successful team.

Take Work Life Balance Seriously!

When employees are able to achieve a healthy balance, they’re more productive and engaged in their work. There are a few key ways to promote work/life balance in the workplace. First, offer flexible work arrangements such as telecommuting or flexible hours. This allows employees to better manage their time and can make it easier to juggle work and personal responsibilities. Second, provide ample opportunities for paid time off so that employees can take a break when they need it. Finally, create a supportive culture where employees feel like they can openly discuss their work/life balance needs without fear of judgement or reprisal. By taking these steps, you can create a workplace that supports employee wellbeing and promotes productive, engaged workers.

Hello and welcome – I’m Grant Price from YOHO with another … ‘Question of Work’.James asks: “How do I maintain productivity when my people are working remotely?”

Well James It’s clearly not about filling in more forms! Company performance is a product of employee productivity.

So, are concerns about productivity and remote working justified? Well – yes AND no! Research tells us that productivity actually increased for the majority of businesses during the first lock-down.

It seems concerns that employees wouldn’t diligently apply themselves to their work when no-one was around, were largely unfounded. In fact, workers started their days earlier to make use of gained ‘commute’ time – and worked harder to prove they COULD be trusted to deliver without supervision.

However, recent studies have uncovered reductions in productivity – with a range of causes including ‘remote fatigue’ … Employees are missing the buzz of working alongside their teammates and are tiring of endless videos calls. And of course, distractions in the home are often MUCH more difficult to control and resolve – not least children, pets, neighbours, technology issues and so on…

As ever, there’s a lot to think about in the New Work Order. We need to put the right tools in place and create the right balance.

At YOHO we’ve already done much of the research and thinking to help you create an effective workplace. We’d be delighted to share our knowledge with you.
